This is a coffee bar by day and cocktail bar by night. We went in the evening. It draws a lively crowd, but not too rambunctious. The cocktail menu is sophisticated and the mixologists are a busy crew. They will mix mocktails on request as well, though none are on the menu. Sitting at the bar allows a front-row seat to watching the drinks get made: private cozy booths and outdoor seating are also available. A fairly 1930s atmosphere thanks to the older building, which they punch up with a low-key vibe and vintage furnishings. No televisions or blasting music here, just a congenial and rather romantic atmosphere and friendly bar staff who will look after you. A small bar menu is more or less limited to olives, nuts, and cheese. Street and lot parking are both nearby. It’s right in downtown Amherst so dining options are everywhere as well as the cinema next door. Not a great pick for kids, obviously, or for rowdy groups. A good date spot. We also saw small groups of friends and study partners at the bar.
Oh my dogs, Izzy, Katie, and Gabe are the best bartenders ever!!! Specifically izzy with his coffee house look, killer mustache, and great recommendations! The way he shakes a cocktail makes me worry he is going to throw out his back, but my is it a a great cocktail! Check this place out for the sweet bartenders and the super rad night life!
Pros: Great location and atmosphere, no doubt best in the area. Cons: Service. On some days it's fine. Others, no so much. You can stand there for 10 minutes with no one acknowledging your presence as it's beneath them, and perhaps with a little salt. Would like the place better if less of a pretentious scene and more like a place that serves customers. At the end of the day, your spending 40 bucks for a couple drinks and a grill cheese. At least meet me where I am.
Pros: Good coffee, whiskey menu and evening ambience. Cons: Bartenders will start playing random songs at full volume after they get the check so that you cannot hear the person next to you and leave instead of just letting the customer know that the place is closing soon Food: 5/5
Great spot for a quick coffee+pastry in the morning, or I love to come by at the end of the workday for one of their excellent cocktails or wide assortment of whiskey. We've always had a wonderful time when Ben is managing behind the bar, shoutout to him. There is always some unique cocktail on draft, and the bar snacks cheese, pickles, creme brulee are a good sharing size and super tasty.
friendly staff. Great place for coffee and drinks at the same time! First place I have seen that's a bar that can also do good cappuccino foam! Kid-friendliness: Friendly for kids despite the bar area. Calm place but not boring.
I stopped by in the morning to check the coffee taste and tried to buy ground coffee on the way after work, but it was too bad that the door was closed. I miss the taste of coffee here. I live in near Boston...Food: 5/5
I love this place! The baristas are knowledgeable and the code is first rate. Given a choice between Amherst Coffee and the local chains, I'd go here, no question. A good, quiet, low light atmosphere where you can sit and enjoy your brew in relative quiet. I often find people quietly working on their laptops - that's how quiet it can be.
This is without a doubt the coziest place in Amherst. The coffee is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the whiskey bar which opens at the end of the day was a great source of camaraderie in my grad school years. Long live, AmCo.
This place is great for studying and meeting up. The menu is comprehensive and the baristas explain it very well. Service is fast and friendly. Will be back!
