Do not let your loved ones be placed here. My mother was transferred here from Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove and tested positive on day one for Covid so her family could not see her for two weeks. By the time we got to see her we were only allowed one person for one hour per day. This is late July 2022. No other hospital to my knowledge had this protocol. The last precious days of my mother’s life were spent alone. The doctors and nurses are completely desensitized in this place.
This was an absolutely horrible place. My 94 year old father was transferred here to be weaned of the ventilator. He had a stroke and a fall early March which caused bi-lateral injuries to his brain. We were advised by the physicians at Evanston Hospital that this is the best place for respiratory care. The attending also noted that there would be a good neurologist here for my father. The respiratory therapists, wound nurses, a physical therapist and most of the RNs and CNAs were incredible. I can't, however, say the same about the physicians especially the neurologists and respiratory specialist, manager of his unit, or the attending physicians here. First and foremost, I have never experienced such unprofessional attitude from the specialists. Every time the neurologist would come see my father, she would drop in and stayed no longer than two minutes. Rarely will she make eye contact with us. My father had a trach and we had to constantly push for them to cap it. He had been off the ventilator for weeks, yet when we requested to speak to the pulmonary doctors to calls us, no one would. Only after weeks of requesting, they capped his trach, but again we had to push for them to get a speech therapist in to assess him. My father was not able to speak well as a result of his stroke and he was not able to speak English. We continually asked if they would call us or allow us to come in when they assessed him so that we can translate for him, no one responded. The physician that was caring for him spoke to us in a very condescending tone. At one point, he misread my father's lab. He was dehydrated and no one addressed it until we brought it up. Because my sister and I are in healthcare, we were able to catch the errors and that should not have been the case. The worse came on the day when my father was to be transferred to a skilled nursing facility. That morning, we found a golf size bruise and bump on his head. We immediately brought this up to the staff. The lack of follow up and response was incredibly disappointing. The entire staff was silenced. What was most frustrating and upsetting was when the RN on staff attempted to put the blame on my father. She tried to say he hit himself on the bed rail. That is nearly impossible given he was not able to move, there was matting around the rails, and the bump was circular in shape. The wound nurse later assessed and he agreed that something hit our father's head. Even if it was an accident, at most, we expected an apology. Yet we got nothing. No report was written up. Management did not even come to speak to us. I find this to be very concerning and highly unprofessional. This speaks loudly to the level of care from this institution. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The security guards were more pleasant and caring than any of the direct patient care staff members. If you have to bring your love ones here, I would caution that you be there for all allowed hours to watch over your love one.
If I could give it less than I one star I would. Security and most nurses in ICU were ok but it just seemed like the Dr there is fast to try to intubate and give up on the patient. I can't remember which nurse it was but my father could barely eat. when we got there he was just staring at his food because he really could not eat by himself. on my father's last day of life. The presidents admin " Kathy" did not give care and our family had to mourn the passing of my father in the main lobby. even though the nurses and security were understanding, she did not allow us to go to the icu waiting area. I would not recommend this place to anyone else and shame on Kathy, I pray thst she does not have the same to her, because karma comes around. this place claims to be catholic but to treat a family mourning the death of their father and father figure to alot ouf out family is horrible and not very catholic. Kathy supposedly got her orders from a lady named Yolanda. either way these two are horrible and should not be allowed to treat families they way they do. they were on a power trip and do not care about others.
My brother has been here a week today first time out of bed staff are rude!! They just don't care. I'd never put a family member in here. Sad to say if he wouldn't die at home I'd pack him up AMA today bc neglectful. Physical therapy I watched today 10 mins worked with hands and arms he has full control of those it's his legs needs the focus! Do better care ! I wouldn't even give one star but I had to in order to post review ...my brother was discharged from there and they wound up making things right and well my brother is on his way home within weeks now!
My son was in intensive care at Holy Family for three weeks and my family members would agree that he received caring attention from everyone, doctors and nurses alike. His condition was so severe that there was little hope for recovery and the loving treatment he received was a source of comfort for us.
Horrible! Do not put your loved ones in this hospital, they will kill them. Family friend has been here since Feb, she is slowly dying. The staff is not attentive, at times they are flat out rude. Patient is in pain asking for help, the staff ignores her. The patient in room down hall is screaming out, "someone please help me" for 15 minutes and staff ignores her. Our guest have to go and get someone to help this other patient. Doctors are worse. GI doctor is visiting our friend 2 days after stomach surgery. She is in huge pain, trying but unable to have a bowel movement. His response is "that is what happens when you don't eat." Rude, negligent and inappropriate. Our friend is slowly dying here, curled up in a ball. Run ... do not walk, run in the other direction!!
We didn’t have a good experience with this facility the clinical staff in the beginning of my fathers stay was horrible. My father was admitted to holy family for ventilator support due to COVID-19 complications. Very unprofessional in the beginning. However towards the last weeks of his stay the staff was changed and a lot more empathetic. But I do strongly believe that this facility is short staffed. They need more help. Hopefully they see that. I must say ms Vanessa the referral coordinator was extremely helpful she went above and beyond for my dad to moved to a different facility. So was the clinical nurse manager. I believe that the fact that my family is in the medical field is what was helpful to keep a great level of care for my father I don’t feel that I would want him to ever return to this place though honestly our experience was pretty bad. Some nurses and some CNA’s would get upset when we had questions. The pappano physician and president of the facility is not professional. We were heart Broken But grateful that my father is out of this location I would say only in the last resort I would return but would not be a first choice I’m sorry I’m just being honest.
The staff in the mammography department is absolutely awesome. They are efficient, kind and caring. Griselda and Ingrid are exceptional and I always feel lucky I can go there and have them still be there.
Absolute garbage. We set up an apt 3 weeks ago for a bone scan for 3:30 pm. When we got there we were told they closed at 2pm. No text no call to tell us they closed early.
AMITA Health Holy Family is amazing! My dad is making a full recovery and they are truly professional all around! Very happy with how well they work together as a team and the amount of care all the staff has for there patients. We are at a rehab now and couldn’t be more thankful of everyone at Holy Family.
