I have been with Pat & Mary at Apex Ranch for 7 Plus years now. My horse Jack loves it there and has good friends in every stall. Our boarders are like family and we work together to take care of each other and our animals. Jack and I love the easy access to trails and the sense of peacefulness . I don’t believe there’s a better boarding facility around. Especially price wise. My dog is also always welcome. Deep gratitude to P and M for all they do!
I boarded my horse at Apex for the last two years. I only left because I moved out of state, where I have my own facility now. The facility is well maintained and a groomed, lighted and occasionally even watered arena before drought restrictions went into effect was a dream. The owners handle staff issues quickly and the current barn manager/worker is a wonderful person who gets the jobs done quickly and with a friendly smile and word. He is a dream. The owners are also very reasonable and easy to deal with in terms of arranging everything from feeding all the way to possibly having a visitor for a day or two. Some reviews suggested issues with amount of feed, and I'd like to address that. Apex has set fees for set services. They are very upfront and transparent about them. Many of us who have boarded there, prefer a different feed situation. I wanted my mare on half alfalfa half grass. Others have their horses on only grass etc. Apex provides a set amount of alfalfa. They are happy to help accommodate you bringing in your own other feed at your cost, and the barn manager is extremely flexible in feeding the horses whatever the owners want. If you want 3 feedings a day or special feed, just pay the barn manager whatever he charges for that, and it will happen. It is the same with supplements and blankets. I never used extra services provided by Apex because I made friends with the other boarders there, and we all help each other out if need be. If its just feeding additional grass or other hay besides what is provided, they generally provide the service if you provide the feed. This is the first facility I've ever boarded at where every single boarder gets along to some extent, from being ok with each other all the way to being best friends with them. Its a small place, with only a handful of boarders who are like family with each other. When someone doesn't fit in, of course they are going to be hurt, upset or even angry or vindictive. Trust me, I am an extremely honest reviewer. I would not make a positive review simply to counter a negative review. I went to the owners on more than one occasion with a problem I had with something on the facility or with a maintenance issue, and it was always resolved professionally and satisfactorily on my end and I assume on theirs. Additionally, they are a short ride to Happy Camp Regional Park, which is a huge place to ride and enjoy nature. It has a large parking area so people can trailer in as well, and it is loaded with green grass and wild oats in the spring, as well as numerous wild flowers and a view to the ocean from the upper plateau. I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinions and likewise can make any review they choose. People who create multiple accounts solely to post more negative reviews about their experience negate their original negative review, by being so vindictive. Take it for what it looks like. No one coerced me to make a review. I'm a prolific reviewer on many platforms. I want people to have the chance to try or avoid things that I liked or didn't. That is all. Pat and Mary are nice people, who run a nice boarding facility. Its not for everyone, but for most boarders, its a nice place.
Moved to Apex after boarding at my own place for awhile so I was rather spoiled. The new owner has done an excellent job making the ranch very appealing for boarders and their horses. Most everything has been updated. The facilities are excellent. Feed top quality. The Worker kind and attentive to the horses. Great arena, turn outs & round pen. Easy access to trails. Very nice considerate boarders. This is such a calm and serene place that we look forward to spending as much time there as possible. Highly recommend to anyone looking to board in a professional, no drama, well managed boarding facility.
Professional, Safe and Clean. Gorgeous property. Experienced staff. Way head of the rest. Apex Ranch is by far the best in town. I came across this hidden gem when I was referred there by a colleague. Dave and Nicole took such good care of my nephew during private horse lessons, I came back and brought my boyfriend’s little girl for some too. Now my aunt wants to board her horses there. Highly recommend!
I have been at this barn since 2012, and I have NO hesitation in recommending this barn to friends and any prospective boarder. Apex is the home to my wonderful chestnut gelding. Both him and I love this barn. He is happy and healthy, which is of upmost importance to me. Halo's stall is cleaned and maintained daily and be is fed on schedule as communicated by the owners. The barn is clean, well maintained, and everyone is helpful and kind when dealing with each other. Patrick and Mary are kind, supportive, and professional when dealing with the boarders. My dogs are regular visitors to the barn and they love interacting with the fellow boarders, the owners, and the barn manager. In the few occasions when I have been unable to get to the barn, the barn manager has been a phone call or text away and has been willing to help in any way possible to make sure that my horse is well taken care of. I am lucky to be part of the Apex Family.
Apex is the best ranch to Board at in the Conejo Valley. The Ownership is Wonderful as they truly care about the happiness of their clients and the welfare of the horses. They have excelllent management and the facility is beautiful. It is well maintained and if something needs fixing it is done promptly. I was very happy while boarding there. They also have miles of trails to ride. I moved because I purchased a home where I can board my own horse. Otherwise, I would still be there!
I have been at Apex Ranch for over 6 years extremely happy and content. It was a beautiful peaceful place to board your horse. I left this property feb 2021 as soon as possible along with most of the previous boarders when Danny Ghinghis became the new owner! I would never recommend this property for boarding to anyone.
By far the best boarding facility in Simi Valley and Ventura County as a whole. I started out here in 2013 and moved on to several different facilities for different reasons only to find loads of drama and people who should never call themselves horsemen. After dealing with several places and giving up the search, I ended up going back to Apex in 2016 and stayed for the remainder of my California residency. For the price you cannot beat it, the facility is clean, well kept, and it is obvious that the management takes pride in what they do. Every boarder is welcoming and blends well with each other. I have not had a single issue. Highly recommended!
Just because the owners live across the street doesn’t mean they are good managers. In my case, minor issues were not addressed in a timely, professional manner and I ended up in a turf war with a fellow boarder. If your horse is bigger than a pony, expect to pay for extra hay. Services advertised on the website were not available. Word to the wise – monitor all checks especially large ones written to Apex Ranch.
If I could give a negative star rating it would be -5. Since the system doesn't allow it, I will settle on one star for the arena and a few nice ladies that board there. The only positive reviews here with the exception of the owner giving themselves 5 stars have been solicited in response to my review and contrived from current boarders. I don't blame them, I understand if they don't want to suffer the same retaliation. Mr. Schultz and Mary Schultz's admitted goal is to weed out boarders they don't like, so if they like you, maybe you get better treatment. These owners changed their treatment of us right after they saw a Hispanic last name on my board check, in addition to insinuating that I am gay as if it were a derogatory insult. Please look at his response to my reviews...this company has never tried to work with me in a peaceful manner! Day one they altered the face of our personal check, the bank cancelled the check and pulled back the money because it's considered fraud. Instead of the Schultz's apologizing for defrauding us, they accused us of putting a stop payment on the check and escalated the retaliation. Everyone knows, once a check clears you can not stop payment. In addition, everyone knows that you endorse the back of the check, you don't change who the check was written to or why. Patrick Shultz actually called me at home, seems he was away on business travel and called me to yell at me when it was convenient for him. Undisclosed to me, he secretly had Mary Schultz on the line listening. He insisted I let him 'have the floor' while he yelled personal insults at me for 43 minutes. I have the official phone records to prove it! I had to put the phone down because I couldn't stand to listen to his emotional rant but had to let him think I was listening out of fear for my horses. What kind of business man yells personal insults at a senior woman client? Or chooses to instigate a childish bullying phone call while Mary Schultz secretly listened in. Drama Queens,...narcissistic, immature, childish, dishonest, exploitive and predatory! So you could be the lucky one they like or you could be the one they decide to exploit and weed out!
