The Catholic Church has finally won in its attempt to impose its morality on the majority of Americans who believe that women should have a choice when it comes to reproductive rights. Congratulations! You have officially become the Church of old: oppressive, monolithic and dangerous.
Please take a moment to truly reflect on what love is, what God is, and your role in spreading that message. There is no requirement that you accept, understand, or condone actions you believe are wrong. I am not challenging your ideas on this point. However you are required to love that person. How would firing someone, or compelling a school to fire someone be an act of love? What a hateful act to require a school to fire a beloved teacher? Then when they refuse, to abandon all the teachers and students? Your actions are not consistent with the teachings of Jesus. You have allowed hate and fear to guide your heart. I will praying for you.
The Archbishop of Indianapolis and hypocrisy go together like peanut butter and jelly. Every straight staff member who is co-habitating with anyone else in a romantic relationship is violating Catholic doctrine. Why aren't they all being fired? Does the Archbishop intend to ask them if they are using birth control? If they are, according to his interpretation of policy, they need to go. How about priests accused of any type of malfeasance? Shouldn't the schools, parishes and institutions with which they were associated be stripped of the title "Catholic" as well? The Archbishop isn't upholding Catholic doctrine - he's upholding clericalism and hypocrisy at their finest. He's on an anti-gay witch hunt while everyone else violating church teaching is getting a pass, or at least keeping their jobs. If he had any dignity and respect for his sacred office, he would resign. I pray that parishioners speak with their pockets - until the Archbishop changes his mind or resigns, not one dime for the diocese. I hope parents in the Catholic schools impacted by his policies withhold everything but tuition. Money always talks, and this time, it needs to be heard.
If you are upholding the catholic beliefs then are you checking other teacher upholding a life of the romsn catholic teachings. One are all teachers married in accordance with Roman catholic faith. Are they not using birth control. Are they not divorcing and if they do, are their divorce is annulled before remarrying. The same sex marriage is not recognized, so by the Roman catholic faith so the marriage doesn't exist like Protestant / Roman catholic marriage
Charles Thompson's hypocrisy is stunning. According to his own logic, he should be chucking out every teacher in Catholic schools who is divorced and remarried I'm sure that's a lot of them. But he won't do that because...bigotry. It's easier to pick on gay folks because they're a minority. Great lesson they're teaching the students about injustice and scapegoating.
1 Peter 4:8: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." John 15:12: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." Your fairy tales tell you to love people, but your bigoted minds tell you to hate. As usual, great job at being hypocrites.
Great Archdiocese that has served me well since 1990. Wonderful hardworking priests, great schools, faithful people. Anti-Catholicism is in style again as shown in these comments. "The act of defending any of the cardinal virtues has today all the exhilaration of a vice." -GK Chesterton.
Thank you Abp Thompson for upholding the teaching of Christ. Hopefully, those who malign you for doing so, will open their hearts and minds so that they may understand what Truth is and stop being lead into error by their emotions and our fallen society. May God bless you.
I am proud that our God loving bishop Charles has taken a stand for orthodoxy. It is rare to find a clergyman who stands up for the Truth nowadays.
What the Catholic Church did was essentially blackmail Cathedral High School into a no-win situation. It’s administrators had no choice ... it didn’t want to risk losing non-profit status. I hope the Catholic community shows its disapproval of the Church’s ultimatum by cutting back on Sunday donations!
