Not going to lie, worst public transportation in a town I've ever experienced. The times of operation are catered to people who work in the daytime only. Now if the bus was ran by the university it would be understandable but it's ran by the county, so closing the buses down at 7, and some routes even earlier, doesn't make sense to me. The bus system at KU is ran by the university and still goes till 2 am. Also the ATA will shut down whole routes during the summer like people don't live in certain apartments when the school year isn't happening. Get more grants and do better please it's not only students who use the bus in Manhattan
It's nice that they have some kind of service in this area. However, their maps from online are somewhat confusing. Downtown Junction City has their roads listed as streets and avenues however on the map for the bus, It doesn't say street or avenue so if you're downtown, you're not 100% sure that you're standing in the right location. In addition, I could find no bus stop signs downtown. I've seen some along the roads in town but not downtown. I didn't see one single sign anywhere. The only thing I saw was an area where there was benches and a bike rack and that appeared to be a bus stop but it turned out not to be
I have taken this bus a few times in Junction City & I refuse to do it again I don't necessarily need to take the bus, but, I have rode it to be more 'green' and reduce some gas expenses. The bus driver Joseph/Joe Rittenhouse I asked another rider what his name was and she told me his name, she also said she reported him several times and nothing happened anyways he was the most disrespectful person that I ever came across, he made the rudest comments/remarks, had a bad attitude, he was extremely unkept and unpresentable, he smelled horrendous, had an extremely bad attitude the entire time and I don't even understand how this type of a person could be employed anywhere. ATA Bus is not a professional bus system and I am definitely never riding this ever again. Sadly, ATA bus like so many businesses/jobs around here wont do anything and will keep someone like him despite how vulgar he was I called & reported this interaction with him, and I doubt anything happened. People like him don't deserve this type of employment.
ATA bus does a really great job on getting you where you need to go in time every day. All the drivers are super duper nice and friendly. I've met some of the nicest drivers from ATA bus. I think everyone has been doing a fantastic job with the routes and also the ones working the dispatch. ATA bus is the best!!
Busses breakdown and there is no a/c is some of them when it is very hot outside which makes it very uncomfortable inside the buss
I regret to write this review as I truly support the idea of public transportation, but I feel obligated to share my experience so the system can be improved. Over the past 2 weeks I have made a concerted attempt to use route 1 on a daily basis. However, I will not be using it anymore. In the morning the buses are always on time. However, by late afternoon your lucky if your bus shows up, let alone on time. Of the 12 times I have ridden the bus, it has been reliable approximately 5 times. The other 7 times it has either been more than 30 minutes late, skipped my stop when I was riding the bus, or not shown up at all. Additionally, the drivers are very hit and miss. I understand I am not riding public transport for white-glove service, but several of the drivers are downright rude and treat you more like they are delivering cattle to the pen than passengers on a paid service. They also have a tendency to drive like they are passing an opponent at Le Mans. There is one driver in particular who I am sure is determined to either over-rev the engine or push the brake/acceleration pedal through the floor, because we will floor it from every stop and brake within only feet of the cars in front of us. Overall I would like to use this service, but as a grad student with literally negative time, I cannot afford to budget an extra hour everyday to simply wait on the bus.
Routes are well planned, but the ride is rough and noisy. Only comes once an hour or so per route. 30 mins would be more useful. It's not Bay Area quality, but works well in a pinch if you have a couple of hours to spend.
The bus has not shown a record, by word of mouth, of safety or reliability. My child had to use this service when their car was broken down. No less than twice the bus did not arrive and after waiting my child had to walk to work. Another time they stopped too briefly to load my child because they were running late. My students and families have been on the bus when the bus has been in an accident or been very late or not arrived. As a driver sharing the rode, I have had many times that I have seen careless driving by the drivers of the buses. I do hope there will be better training and incentives to increase the quality of this service. As of now I usually try not to suggest ATA as an alternative to Green Apple bikes or walking.
