Triage Nurse Raquel deserves highest marks for knowledge, professionalism and courtesy. Thanks for your patience in bearing with me as I explained a complicated medical and logistical tangle. And thanks for your excellent advice!
When someone comes in saying their pain is at a 9 maybe actually help them and treat their pain. What's a guy gotta do to get some relief, come in with a gun shot wound? Worthless. And you all wonder why vets are dropping like flies, we can't get help anywhere. Not even at the places designed for it.
My wife is a nurse at the VA. She worked her 12 hour shift and went to the ER afterwards due to tremendous pain in her neck, almost unable to move her arm, and tingly sensations for most of her shift. After 5 hours without being seen...she had to leave so she could try to get 5 hours sleep before her next shift. She asked security if they could walk her to the garage midnight...they said they were busy. The employee parking garage is about two blocks away...unlit and unsecure...and not the greatest area. This VA is a CNN Special Report waiting to happen. LTC Jim Nichols Retired
Went to this va with concerning medical conditions left with no answers after 6 hours in the ER and their disease prevention is laughable. Was put on a precaution that no one followed unless I was in my little room. Was around other patients and staff that had no clue of my precautions then released without treatment. I guess my rectal bleeding will go away on it's own.
Going into the ER I expected to wait hours to be seen. I was seen, treated, & discharged within two hours to include the time waiting at pharmacy for medications. I always have anxiety when I go into VA facilities for treatment but the provider and Nursing staff were professional & compassionate. I’m so thankful that I was able to be seen quickly and that they worked to help resolve my issue until I can follow up with primary care team.
Christopher R. Sandles The hospital director does nothing but collect a paycheck he doesn’t listen to patients concerns someone else handles all the complaints and concerns and deletes them. The mental health clinic cancels and reschedules your appointment. The virtual appointment doesn’t work disconnecting all the time. I takes months to get an appointment Sandler should be fired. A quick call to the governors office and I’m sure people will start doing their jobs. Veterans deserve better! There is never any parking 3 plus hour wait times in the Lab and ER this is the worst VA new management is desperately needed.
It's it a shame that the only reviews you see for large organizations are the bad ones? I get it, sometimes things don't go the way they should and a person needs an outlet to complain. I'm not one of these people. This VA hospital sees hundreds of patients, veterans, every single day. I just happened to be one of them. I had appendicitis and I went to the ER here at Audie Murphy. They took me back, did a hundred tests to make sure it wasn't something else, then had my appendix out a few hours later. I recovered so well from the procedure that I was up and walking around no less than 3 hours post-opp. I even refused the pain medication because I wasn't in any. They kept me over night for observation and the doc came in the next morning and told me I was free to leave. I even went back to work that same day i promise I didn't lift anything at all for a whole week! The doctors in the ER, the surgeon who did the operation, the nurses who kept me company... this was top quality care. A real review, from a real veteran, who received real care from a real hospital. Take the bad ones with a grain of salt and always know that there are always two sides to a story. Hopefully this will be some balance. Cheers!
The night crew here is fantastic. You can tell that they really care about their patients well being. The same can't be said for the morning crew. Wasn't checked in for an hour and a half. Had a doctor who decided to violate hipaa by leaving my door open and proceed to loudly and on repeat mention certain lab results that I had. Literally was told that if I get worse, I should come back but after this experience, I will definitely just go to a civilian medical center. All those years of active duty just to be treated sub par by hospitals that we are supposed to flock to.
I was so, so thankful for the wonderful and professional care that I received. The staff from the lowest house keeper thru the director. Do a wonderful job each and every day. I would put this hospital up against any other here in San Antonio. The improvements here over the last year have been out of this world. The issues that we have at our VA hospitals. Are much bigger then people at this level. It is a money and personnel needs. Contact your law makers and tell them to please fund our care for more doctors. I will say we need someone to look into our mental health issues. If a veteran crys out to see a doctor one on one. They are told no only group sessions.
I work in the medical field and I go to this facility and use the surrounding clinical for all of my medical care. I have received nothing but amazing care. Sure there are days when you may wait a little longer or the staff may have things going on behind the scenes that cause issues but that is no different than any other patient care facility. Have a little patience, these facilities care for a large amount of Veterans. You don’t know what is going on in the room next to you that may require a little extra time. Medicine and patient care are not an exact science. You can not put a specific amount of time on it. Please have patience and know that these facilities care!
