Love the Austin Barbell Club! I train remotely at ABB and the staff and members are always so welcoming and knowledgeable. While it’s not to biggest space, it is utilized well. There is always a space whether you are training by yourself or if you are sharing a platform with someone else. Highly recommend Austin Barbell Club whether you are looking for a home gym or simply somewhere to drop into while you are in Austin!
Update: I have now been an athlete here for 1.5 years and in that time I have surpassed all of my old PR's pre-surgery, won a state medal, qualified for national competitions, and gained some best friends for life. Rob is a total class act and goes above and beyond to make sure you thrive here. The gym also is constantly growing and there's a coaching style for every athlete. I have trained at several Olympic lifting clubs around the country over my 7-year career and Austin Barbell is by far the best one in terms of programming, coaching, culture, equipment, and communication. ___________________________________________ The very best Olympic Weightlifting gym I have ever been to! I have been competing for over 5 years and can honestly say Austin Barbell combines elite training equipment with world-class coaching and somehow manages to make it feel like your second family. Coaches Rob and Christine give you access to a wide variety of coaching styles to push you just the right amount. If I ever leave Austin, this will undoubtedly be my hardest goodbye :
I would move here just for this gym! Welcoming environment, incredible energy, and amazing coaches. I watched the coach provide the perfect amount of feedback and attention to each athlete. Truly passionate about his craft. Go to this gym if you are looking for an amazing atmosphere to put work in! You will be glad you did!
I traveled from across the country to train with the coaches and the community at Austin Barbell. Coach Rob helped me through my first National meet. It’s safe to say I was not disappointed. The experience the coaches have made it easy to learn so much in such a short period of time I was there for three weeks. The community welcomes people from all walks of life with open arms. This was a big part of what makes the experience and this gym special. I will be making my way back to Austin as soon as possible to train here again.
This is the best Olympic Weightlifting gym in Austin, and maybe even the State of Texas. Coach Ronan is great guy and a committed, knowledgeable, Coach. You'll will find equipment that not many other gyms in America have. You'll be programmed and taught techniques used by the best weightlifters in the world. Most importantly, you'll be well taken care of.
I've been weightlifting for 7 years now and have seen a wide variety of gyms. Austin Barbell has it all. Coaches pay attention to the smallest detail of both your training program and the club itself. There is a great fun community and top notch equipment. I highly respect coach Rob and Oleg for building such a great place to practice the sport of olympic weightlifting. I highly recommend this place to both beginners and advanced athletes.
I joined Austin Barbell in October 2021. While I played sports growing up, I had no CrossFit or weightlifting experience before the Foundations course I took with Rob. After those two sessions one on snatch, the other on clean and jerk, I was hooked. I immediately signed up to be a part of the team and it’s the best decision I’ve made for both my mental and physical health in years. Austin Barbell has created community. A community of supportive and just all-around good humans. This community cheers on every single PR, for every single lifter, regardless of whether you’ve been lifting for years or a few weeks. It’s a community where anyone can learn and fail forward. That’s why training at Austin Barbell is the best part of my week. I come 5 times a week just because I love it so much. That’s also a big testament to the coaches. Rob and Oleg are excellent instructors and see potential in every athlete that joins the team. If you want to compete, they will guide you step by step. If you just want to learn, this is also the place for that. Regardless of your goals, Rob and Oleg are careful stewards of your Olympic weightlifting journey. Whether you’re starting or continuing that journey, do it at Austin Barbell. I guarantee you will love it.
I've been a member of this gym since April 2022. I started doing CrossFit years ago and gradually got more interested in Olympic Weightlifting as time went on. When I relocated to Austin, I was surprised that I found a difficult time finding a gym that had a robust Oly program. After visiting more than a few gyms, I stumbled upon ABB. One of the things I appreciate is that the gym owner, Rob, vets each individual that he allows to become a member. I think it's one of the reasons the community is so great there. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced athlete, you'll find someone who can lift with you and I think that is special. While the gym is not huge, you can find always find a platform to share or one of your own to lift on. I appreciate the approach to coaching that Rob and Oleg implement in sessions. You can easily download an app which gives you your daily workouts including accessory work. That way, whether you are lifting in Austin or elsewhere, you'll know what to do. Overall, I'd recommend giving this place a try. If you're looking to compete, you can do that or if you're looking to do oly recreationally, you can do that as well.
