Andrew is a amazing teacher. He succinctly explains complex topics and gradually builds your knowledge. Highly recommend both his classes I and II. He does not just tell you what camera settings to use for each condition but the theory behind each setting.
A "Red-Bulled" passionate instructor with an emphasis on the basic foundation that will allow us students to evolve and to understand as our new knowledge of photography builds a layer upon another layer.
Andrew and this school are AMAZING! I've taken almost every class they offer, and I absolutely loved them all. They were pretty much the best classes I've ever taken, and I've been a student for 20 years. Before taking his classes I liked photography but only thought about it as a hobby,. After taking the first class I fell more in love with it, and have been pursuing it as a job ever since. After these classes I was equipped with more knowledge then almost all of my peer photographers, not to mention more creatively inspired. Andrew is enthusiastic about what he teaches, and gives his students so much time, energy, knowledge, and creative inspiration. I would SO recommend taking any and all of his classes.
Without a doubt the best place to learn photography! The instructors really have a passion for teaching photography in a way that is both easy to understand as well as challenging. They truly understand the history of photography and the photographic medium. Andrew is the most genuine and passionate instructor I’ve ever had. If you are looking for a place to improve your photography skills then this is the place to go! The curriculum is designed to help both the novice and professional.
Great school. I make my living as a photographer and wanted to learn a little bit more about lighting in studio. Andrew suggested that I start at the beginning and I reluctantly did. I learned a lot from photo 1. Somehow Andrew manages to incorporate professionals and beginners into the same lesson and everyone benefits. For the longest time, I would shoot assignments in a very formulaic way. Andrew teaches us to go into the assignment with an open mind and assess the various ways of shooting the subject. What can you do with the light? What can you do with your lens, etc.? These simple steps are often overlooked. It sounds very simple and it is when you have a great instructor like Andrew. There are a wide variety of students including people who like lifestyle photography, music, fashion etc. There are fine art and conceptual photographers. There are students who dislike conceptual and fine art, but somehow the class works for everyone regardless of your photographic focus. If you take this class, you will be a better photographer.
I cannot say enough good things the Austin School of Photography. I have taken three three classes here, and loved all of them. Andrew is an extremely knowledgeable and passionate instructor who wants to help all of his students take better pictures. He is always willing to stay after class to answer student's questions. ASOP has helped make me a better photographer by changing the way that I approach subject matter. No matter what your photography goals are, you can benefit from classes here.
I just finished taking all 4 courses that ASOP offers. I had pursued quite a bit of photography education before I started these classes, so I was already frustrated with how challenging it was to fill my gaps in knowledge. From the very first Photo 1 class, Andrew positioned the material in ways I'd never heard or read before. All of the curriculum has been shaped to gradually level up a student's potential. By the 24th class, I was bursting with excitement about what I now knew how to do. I can now go out and talk with long-time professional photographers and contribute to the conversation. I've been encouraging Andrew to start publishing articles and a book. Until then, photography enthusiasts in Austin are super fortunate that ASOP is available for all of us.
I took levels 1 and 2 and I can tell you, this is the best place to learn photography in Austin. Andrew is a passionate, energetic instructor who does not only talk to you about shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. He REALLY teaches you how to think as a photographer and what to look for when you see and take a photo. It goes WAY beyond the technical issues and teaches you the art or photography. After I finished, I still keep in touch with the school and I had the opportunity to exhibit some of my photos in the EAST Austin Studio Tour, as well as get more general exposure as a photographer. I'm so glad we have a spot like this in Austin!
Excellent studio + excellent instructors. I feel like I'm cheating the system by getting to take such high caliber classes at such an affordable price. My photography skills/confidence have dramatically improved since starting classes 3 months ago. Looking forward to beginning Studio Lighting I next month!
ASOP is so awesome. Andrew is the best. He really cares and teaches in a way that encourages you to think and understand things as opposed to learning a recipe on how to take a picture. You'll never look at photos the same after taking any of his classes, and I've taken all three. I'm hoping he has a 4th class option at some point!!!!
