Avocaderia is the world’s first quick serve avocado bar, serving delicious healthy food throughout the day. Every single dish on the menu features organic avocado at an affordable price point. Delectable menu items include breakfast and lunch bowls, salads, toasts, smoothies, and of course, guacamole.
Behind the project there is an all Italian team, each under 30 years of age: Francesco and Alessandro, who will run business and operations; and Alberto, the chef and creator of Avocaderia’s decidedly tempting menu.
The concept was originated several years ago when Francesco moved to Mexico and fell in love with the hugely popular avocado. “Avocados in Mexico were delicious and widely used in many different dishes. Suddenly I was having avocado everyday: I loved the healthy and tasty characteristic of this super fruit.” He was surprised that there was not yet a place that focused solely on avocado, so he decided it was time to open one himself.
The perfect place to introduce a revolutionary project like Avocaderia was Industry City, a converted industrial space on the waterfront in Brooklyn, home to artisans, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
All avocados used in the creation of Avocaderia’s unparalleled menu will be organic, farmed in the Mexican state of Michoacán by a consortium of local farmers, and fairly traded to the US. Avocaderia only works with suppliers respectful of the environment and the rights of their employees.
“It was important to preserve the flavor of such great produce,” says Alberto, who has spent countless hours perfecting the menu alongside his fellow Florence natives, Alessandro and Francesco. “In Italy we know how to make great food with simple recipes, using few quality ingredients. Sometimes making simple food is the hardest thing,” he added. Alberto’s diligent pursuance of freshness is why the menu includes an abundance of raw ingredients, as well as non-invasive cooking techniques such as sous vide, bringing unique authenticity to an already wholesome meal.
You will find influences from many different cuisines in Avocaderia’s dishes; including the use of Pico de Gallo from Mexico, Shichimi from Japan, and Duqqa from Egypt.
“We love food, and we know how important it is for everyone’s personal well-being. A delicious meal can put a smile on your face and brighten your day, while eating your vegetables (or fruit in this case) will make you live longer. So why should people compromise between something healthy or something tasty? At Avocaderia we want to give you the best of both.”
Avocaderia, located inside the Food Hall in Building 2 at Industry City (254 36th Street), serves breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
