After the Ancient Puebloans migrated from Aztec Ruins in the 1300's, Ute and Navajo Native Americans camped along the Animas River.
By the late 1800's treaties between Indian Tribes and the United States Government allowed homesteaders to establish farms in the San Juan River Basin. In 1887 Aztec, New Mexico was founded to serve Hispanic and Anglo settlers.
Pioneer Village tells the story of these 19th century western Americans. The village has twelve buildings containing authentic local artifacts, interpretive displays, and tools used to settle the Wild West.
