Bachelor's Grove Cemetery

Description

Bachelor's Grove Cemetery is a small, abandoned cemetery in Bremen Township, Cook County, Illinois in Chicago's southwest suburbs. It is well known for its haunted reputation and supposed ghost sightings. The cemetery has also been known as Bachelor Grove, Batchelor Grove, Batchelder's Grove, and Everden (or Everdon).LocationBachelors Grove Cemetery is just northwest of Midlothian and Oak Forest, near the Rubio Woods Forest Preserve on the Midlothian Turnpike (near its intersection with Central Avenue), in the southwest Chicago suburbs.BackgroundThe land surrounding Bachelors Grove Cemetery was originally settled by English homesteaders who relocated to the area from New England, including Stephen Rexford, arguably the most well known of the first wave of Anglo settlers, around 1833. Ursula Bielski, author of "Chicago Haunts," asserts the actual cemetery was originally named the Everdon Cemetery after the original holder of the property title, Samuel Everdon. The site saw its first official burials around 1840 and contains 82 plots, many of which were never sold or used. Burials, however, possibly go back as far as 1834, when German immigrant workers killed while working on the Illinois and Michigan Canal were reportedly laid to rest at the site. The site is often reported to have been a dumping ground for victims of Chicago's organized crime families of the 1920s and 1930s, but no evidence of this has been proven.Reported phenomenaThe most common of the reported phenomena at the site typically involves floating orbs of light over tombstones and near collisions with a phantom vehicle.

The trail to the cemetery is def the creepiest part. It just FEELS like something is watching you. Theres not much to see but if you load yourself up with research before you go it makes it more interesting. Its a shame what they did in the 70s to it. Theres suppose to be near 100 bodies if not more buried there but youll only see about 30ish graves. Check out the infant daughters graves very cool. I can see it being terrifying at night but do NOT go there at night. They set up cameras by the entrance some years ago you will get caught.
It was the scariest experience of my life. We went around 11:30pm and we were walking through the cemetery, and we saw Michael Myers flashing his flashlight. He started playing the footwork version of Halloween so we were confused. I started footworking and he started walking towards me so I screamed and we all started running. I poshed too much before so I couldnt run that fast. If he got me, he got me. I was doomed. Overall, 10/10 experience at bachelors grove. I left my pink patterned sock at the popular gravestone. Rip All the victims of Al Capone.
Was talking to my son today about this cemetery, i grew up in crestwood, we would hang out in all the woods of the area during the 70s and 80s, bachelor's Grove was always a spot we would go to, my only super natural experience was one day we went there and the grave stones were in different spots, a very large one was moved across the cemetery, no track marks to signal a vehicle moving that massive stone, I doubt humans would/could move it by hand. A few days after we returned all the stones where back in their original spots even the giant one were back in there original spots. After 100s of hrs at the cemetery thats my only story of anything super natural. There was also a home foundation with an old Cadillac near the cemetery, I dug many of old bottles there True story
So spooky I think we saw a black ghost dog way off in the distance staring at us. Both times I've been here have been creepy and oppressive. Feel like people are watching you even when no one is there.
No proof at all and there's tons of these stories! No has video'd or recorded anything positive!I'm not a skeptic! I believe and seen things that would cause a person to almost have a heart attack! Ghost Hunters and Josh Baggans won't reply back to me. Charleston,il has a place that will prove there are real intities and ghost!
It's not as creepy and interesting as it was - now maintained and landscaped, grass cut weekly, no more wildflowers or vines. Some very rude tour companies have tours on many weekends and act like they own the place. Park across in Rubio Woods. The path to the cemetery is West of the big cell towers.
So I went last night/this morning I got at this place about 130ish was looking for a spot to park then I'm like why is this spot in the forest you know like it's a cemetery we gotta walk threw the woods to get to it lol but anyways while I was walking to look for the trail I seen 5 deer's outside by the trees & while walking inside the woods seen a possum it Soo funny he looked at like dang they see me climb up this tree he was just stairing at us we were just laughing lol but we left him tho. So while I was walking three I seen a wheelchair in the creekwhich was scary & I took some pictures but idk how to send them on here but this place was very creepy but is it good to go on a full moon I haven't seen anything but I heard thing's. This was my first time here. I seen something flew fast by the flash light light o couldn't tell if it was a bat or a ghost it flew quick but I got it at the light but not sure has anyone seen this to?
Extremely haunted cemetery would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to go out and get a real life experience and good footage just whatever you do sage yourself and whoever is with you to prevent any attachments I was scratched by something I could not physically see with my own eyes I seen it on video from my phone
Love this place and the trails around it. Love the people we find chasing ghosts and living it up. Always a good time.I
Great small and peaceful Cemetary! It’s a little spooky but being there in the sun and the quietness of the forest really brings out a great atmosphere. It’s pretty old and well worth to check out!
