This place serves all comfort food in a casual, friendly, almost diner-like setting. The food was good all around, and prices were reasonable- about $70 for our family of four. There are daily specials as well. Service was fast and well done. The atmosphere reminds me of whatever local family restaurant you grew up going to. The lights are a little dim and the decor is a little dated, but the seating is comfortable and is in good shape. The clientele seems mostly local and skews towards the senior age, but I’m guessing many of them have been going to Bakers for years for all the reasons above. Kid-friendliness: Have a kids menu and provided crayons and coloring sheet. Parking: Large lot given the size of the restaurant Wheelchair accessibility: Handicap spots right up front. Easy to access.
This is probably a more solid place than I can give it credit for after this visit - I think I just wasn't feeling it. We had the cream of crab soup, salad, chicken fried steak with coleslaw, and prime rib with broccoli. The food was okay. Service was okay. They have done a lot of work to the decor of the building, that was nice. It was weird that we arrived right when they opened, so there really wasn't anyone in there - but the next family that came in was seated directly behind us in the closest booth possible. That was weird. But, we'll give it another try!
Came here today for dinner and, I must say, I'm impressed. I got the Crab Bisque first which was creamy and savory. Its a filling soup though so grab a cup. I got the Baked Seafood Combo as main dish. Big piece of haddock, crab imperial, three jumbo shrimp, and three jumbo scallops. All was good and the green beans side was delicious. Overall, I enjoyed the food and I see why its a popular place since 1958. I'll be back for more.
Very nice hometown feel for dinner, they're not open late. There's meals are good. Pricing very reasonable. They're turkey and stuffing is very good as well as many other items. Definitely worth a stop in
Ordered steamed shrimp = unavailable Wings were OK, fried string beans a MUST. Turkey dinner always a go to. Entertainment was awesome the evening we went. Bartender seemed a bit agitated, but luckily we used a waitress who was very pleasant. Drinks were doubles and pretty tasty. Couldn't imagine a single and I barely drink...so there's that Money spent included drinks!!
The food was good, and service was good as well. I got the crab cake sandwich. It wasn't huge, but was mostly lump crab cake with little filler. The bun seemed to be a basic potato bun, and it was not served with lettuce or tomato- just plain. I really like crab cakes, and am pretty particular about the quality. This wasn't the best, but wasn't bad either. It would have been better with lettuce and tomato. It was very reasonably priced. The fries were good. It is a very pretty restaurant and seems like it would be a good place for a date. The one downside was how loud it was when we were there 6:30 pm on a weekday. There were several families with small children, including babies that cried most of the time we were there. I think it's probably a better family restaurant than a place for a date, as conversation was difficult.
The place was good but I wouldn't call it a restaurant. For the price i've been to a LOT better places. Service was good, atmosphere good but the food was... was not good it just felt like I went to my local royal farms. Best way to describe the food is basic nothing i haven't tasted/eatten before and even if it is a popular meal the flavor was not it.
My girlfriends and I had such a wonderful lunch at Baker's. I haven't been in many years, and remembered it being good then, and it still holds true. Our waitress Jeanne was awesome and super friendly. The atmosphere was cozy and the interior was really nice. We had a tough time deciding on what to order, great variety of options. I ordered the Alabama Slamma which came with fries and a pickle, I added a side of coleslaw. Oh. My. Lanta. It was delicious! The chicken was cooked perfectly, juicy and flavorful, the fries were fresh and tasty, and the coleslaw was amazing, like good old fashioned grandma kind. My one friend ordered the hot turkey sandwich with the homemade mashed potatoes. It looked amazing, and she enjoyed every bite. My other friend ordered the southwest chicken sandwich minus the bun and she also enjoyed hers. I had to end my lunch with a piece of cheese cake.. it was yummy. We already made plans to meet again here for another lunch date. The great food, prices and service is too good not to return. The shepards pie and the ravioli with shrimp were both amazing! We had a very delicious dinner, both dishes had great flavor and were filling. We enjoyed every bite. The Smith island carrot cake was tasty after dinner treat!
Bakers was a good stop. In my opinion the online presence appears a bit more upscale than it actually is. We didn't go for upscale but for the crab cakes. Crab cakes were good overall, got the fried cake. Was expecting lettuce and tomatoes but it was just the cake. Still good. Food was good. Service was good. Ambiance is more akin to Friendly's so keep that in mind.
Hopped our way out of there for Easter, as the food was not it. The consistent reviews were very misleading. Pork loin wasn’t great. Ribs weren’t edible. Small portions, prices were nowhere near the quality of the food. Even the sweet teas were not great, sugar didn’t help. Green beans were fresh but out of a can. I’m not sure if it was just the Easter menu, but food was not worth over $100 for 4 people. Sweet Cowoline across the street was great though!!
