I found this hiking destination on my way back to Charlotte from Hickory. Easy little hike with only a few moderate elevation changes and only a couple rugged terrain spots. Very doable for new hikers and kids/pets. There is an overlook that was pretty although it is not as impressive as other hikes I've done where you are higher on a peak. The highlight of this trail for me was the "surprise" mini waterfall--as well as the varied flora. There were a lot of interesting species of plants and even educational plaques along the way to teach you about some of them. Parking: Plenty of free parking Fees: Free to park and hike Restrooms: Clean restrooms
Great hike around the entire trail. It says it's 2 75 miles I believe, but I clocked over 3. Some areas are steep so be prepared. At the top there is a platform with a beautiful view. Plenty of benches to rest and great scenery with trees and a creek running through a good part of itRecommended activitiesWalking, Hiking
Wonderful trails... have only done one trail, but everything is so well kept, and the pathways are pretty clear. Beautiful views and great environment. If you wanna take a nice walk with a little of a challenge it's amazing. Parking: Location has an eating area and a reading trail for kids
Love this place! After wanting to come check it out for awhile, I finally got to and man was it nice! Went on a Saturday morning and stayed till after lunchtime. Plenty of parking space. Lots of covered and uncovered picnic tables. Clean bathrooms. Has a paved trail and several other hiking trails that you can do. The harder trails have benches every so often so you can sit and rest. I thought that was very convenient. Will definitely be going back and hiking all the trails.
I really liked this trail. Didn't hike the whole trail but made it to the top. This is a natural terrain trail can be a bit rugged in spots with roots and rocks, so if you have weak ankles stay on the paved trail which they also have as a small loop. This park also has a literacy walk, which I adore in any park. A few covered picnic areas, the old school metal BBQ standing square grills, heated bathroom always a plus lots of places to rest along the trail. The hike to the top isn't super hard but it isn't easy either. I put this trail in the will return category good view very dog friendly as long as their on a leash this seems to be a very strict policy and I agree you may train your dog but it's other people you gotta worry about so I leash up the pup. Lots of other dogs along this trail so be ready for lots of sniffing and barking lol. Restrooms: Heated and clean Dog-friendliness: Strict leash rule Picnic area: Lots of picnic tables and a couple covered areas
Very, very beautiful. As a Veteran who loves the outdoors, this hits the spot. Be forewarned, there are some steep uphill and downhill paths. I highly recommend. Restrooms: Very clean. Dog-friendliness: Kepp em leashed, that's all.
The hike to the top is moderate. Nothing Great about the views as they are obstructed. Steep in few places. Great place to explore nature & get some great exercise. It's not too far from Charlotte. Great viewing platform at the top, with a place to rest & picnic. Picnic areas also at start of hike. Restroom was clean. Restrooms: Yes . Clean. Dog-friendliness: Yes. Keep pets on leash. Picnic area: Yes. Near parking lot
This park is perfect if you are looking for a hike with different path options. The routes are very well marked and they offer nice fauna and flora information along the trail. The variety of birds and fungus photos attached is huge! Make sure to bring insect repellent, they will follow you the whole walk!
TAKE YOUR TIME. It’s a real hike and requires real effort. The summit at the top is worth it and it is well earned. Lots of benches and well marked trail. The trail moves through forest, creek, and top view. Good signage for tree types.
A quiet, beautiful park with great amenities. We hiked Baker’s Mountain Loop and it had some challenging elevation changes. There are plenty of benches to take a break though, and the trails are well marked. After hiking, we had a picnic at the clean, well kept pavilion. Hardly anyone walked by during our entire time there. Water, restrooms and garbage cans are accessible within the park. Highly recommended! Our dogs loved it.
