This is a pretty nice little neighborhood market and it's super convenient to pop in when I need something quick. My mother loves their senior discount Tuesdays. They have a decent selection of everything you need, but the star of the store is their produce and meat. You can get great quality meat for very nice low prices. I got .75 pounds of ground beef for 4.81 the other day which was amazing. Prices on other things can be steep however. Almost 9 dollars for a loaf of banana bread from the bakery which is very steep in my opinion. A gallon of whole milk for almost 4 dollars when I get it almost 80 cents cheaper at Safeway. So while some things are great, other more local items tend to be more expensive. The store is always well kept and the employees are generally nice. So overall a decent place to get groceries.
This used to be one of my favorite local stores. Everything was fresh and near top quality. Their prices went up significantly recently but the food quality seemed to get worse. I bought Macrina bakery colomba bread just a day before Easter from thriftway. OMG, it was so bad, like already expired. No one ate it It was so embarrassing! When I brought almost the whole product to the thriftway manager the next day she was so not bothered to do anything. She said they can’t return or compensate it anyway because it was open. And how else do you find out if the product is bad?! Not just people don’t like it, it’s already dry and has some strange taste! May be it was a bad batch or Ballinger Thriftway poor storing conditions which spoiled the product. I personally know several neighbours who stopped going to the thriftway exactly because of their same kind of experience. So now you can’t buy a decent bread from your favourite bakery from this store! Buyers be aware
Google's definition of thrift is: the quality of using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully. Miriam Webster says it's: careful management especially of money These two definitions taken as written, would make 'Thriftway' the most inappropriately named store in modern history. As I walked through the store, just browsing to see if there was anything I wanted to buy, I quickly found the prices on items to be FAR higher than anywhere I normally shop. At first I thought it was just the deli was a little steep that happens, right?, but as I continued to browse, it became apparent that this was not the case. In every department I shopped, the prices were consistently 30-50% higher than even Safeway. And a few products that I had recently shopped elsewhere were almost TWICE the price. Now, I'm not talking about special, in-store exclusives. I'm talking the EXACT SAME products in other stores, just MUCH more expensive. So if you're wealthy, and don't care about 'thrift' spending money wisely, then Thriftway is DEFINITELY your kind of store. But if saving money is something you want to do, drive the extra distance to a different store. Even the QFC in Mountlake Terrace is cheaper...
Awesome grocer that has everything you need and a lot of local options. Almost everything they make in house is amazing. Huge plus - nothing but old school bangers on the speakers... best grocery store music you've ever heard.
Been here 4 or 5 times. The hot deli is so unique. I had beef pot roast today with carrots and potatoes. I received almost all meat and only a tiny piece of fat. Who does pot roast in a deli? So great. I had a chicken enchilada a few weeks ago, and they had chicken Alfredo also today. They have a new hot deli entree every time I been here. And their bakery? I wish I could eat everything if I was not watching my carbs, also so unique. Will visit again if I am in the area for sure!!
My usual stores were out of refrigerated Silk Soy so I decided to try here. Thriftway had it in stock, yey! I came in at around 9pm it closes at 10 and it was quiet. Good hour it seems like for avoiding the shopping crowd. Prices and selection looked the same as Safeway and QFC but noticed many empty spots in the shelves. The liqour/beer aisle looked well stocked though and has the biggest selection I've seen so far in any supermarket. Was surprised to find macarons in the bakery section, it was cheap. Not the best tasting but good enough for a small child who loves French macarons.
It's great to support a locally owned grocery store. Their wine selection is excellent, and they frequently have great wine sales and discounts.
Thriftway is a great local store. They have the basics and a but more. Nicely laid out and prices are just as good as any other grocery store. I really like the produce section very fresh and well organized.
Good prices and great quality produce. Deli is delicious. The owner really took great care of his employees during covid as well. They have fun raffles too for their shoppers. Definitely recommend
This is one of my favorite grocery stores. Everything is top quality. They have an extensive deli, with a chef that creates fresh offerings every day and offers some great variety beyond the typical deli fare. Excellent meat and seafood department, in which I've never noticed any fishy smell. Produce is great as well. The people are friendly and helpful. They open extra lanes when the lines get any length. Not only that, they answer the phone when you call instead of putting you into a long automated directory. Bonus, if you are over 65, you get a 10% discount on Tuesdays. Great operation all around!
