All three of our children 11, 9 and 7 have been students at the Baltimore School of Music for almost a year now and they absolutely love it! This is our their first experience with formal music education and it is quite fulfilling to watch them grow and learn. Two of the children have even switched instruments within this past year so we've gotten to experience several different instructors' styles and we can tell you...all of them are kind, compassionate, gentle, encouraging, enthusiastic, talented and knowledgeable! We know this because we started at BSM over the slower, covid winter last year in December 2020. It was easy to schedule all three kids' lessons on the same day at the same time. Since my husband and I had nowhere to be, we would sit in on the lessons and witness how each instructor developed each child starting with the basics and progressing at just the right pace to the next concept. We have had the longest experience with Dr. Isaac Greene. Dr. Greene teaches our one daughter 9 classical guitar. He is incredibly calm, patient and kind. He listens well, encourages, and gently corrects with a positive spin rather than critiquing. Our daughter has developed into quite the guitar player because of his guidance. She is happy to practice and loves going to lessons. I hope she and our other two children continue on their musical journey and learn to appreciate music with BSM for as long as they can! I know this is an experience our children with remember and look back on fondly when they are older!
I've been taking guitar lessons with Ian for about 6 months now, and have really benefitted from and enjoyed the experience! I was a little worried at first that the school would be too oriented towards teaching kids and classical music, but Ian has been really adaptable with what he's been able to teach me. His patience, knowledge, and talent for teaching have made a huge difference in my learning, and I can confidently say I'd be way worse at this without his help. Plus, the dude can shred!
We couldn't ask for a better classical guitar teacher than Mr. Ian. My 9 year old daughter and I 30-something are both complete beginners and have truly really enjoyed learning from him these last few months. He is warm, kind, patient, and the most gifted teacher. Not to mention a brilliant guitarist and all-around musician! He has really expanded our horizons and we can't recommend him or BSM more!
My son is in his first year of violin lessons with Rose. She’s a wonderfully patient teacher who is able to critique without criticizing. She explains concepts in an understandable way and she always gives positive reinforcement.
Jordan is an awesome teacher! He is patient, has kind energy, and pushes our guitar player to do his best. When our learner started, he was brand new to the guitar. Now he is confident in reading music and practicing the songs that Jordan teaches him at lessons. I highly recommend Jordan!
Our 7 year old son is having a great experience at BSM! He is working with Mrs. Alison and he’s enjoying it so much! She’s wonderfully patient and inspiring. She’s brought great joy and confidence to his piano lessons. Thank you
Ms. Alexandra Johannsen is a very good and friendly Teacher, helping my daughter climb pitches she finds difficult to do before, she is highly skilled in her job with deepest knowledge of vocal capabilities and abilities, she effectively debunks the stages of highly skilled singing explaining in detail how to sing properly. I love the school, the staff are welcoming, friendly and professional.
Great place to take music lessons. Both of my kids started music lessons as beginners six months ago and love it. One kid is with Ian Hrdlicka for ukulele, the other is with Ally Johannsen for piano, and both teachers are good with kids, very professional and knowledgable. We've loved our experience there!
My comment was deleted but I will KEEP posting it. Do not go here if you have children with special needs. The Manager, Jamie, is completely out of touch and ill-equipped to handle young children. She worried more about creating an inclusive space for some children and not all of them.
My 4-year old son started his first Piano lessons with Mr. Enloe for a year. It was a great experience, my son loved him! They use a creative modern curriculum to teach this age. I would highly recommend this place.
