Out here, theatre begins with a summer sunset and ends under the country stars...
Barnyard Theatre's founding members met and began working together at Davis High School. After returning home from college for our summer break, we decided it would be fun to continue our theatrical hi-jinks. The Hunt family generously offered to host us in the Historic Schmeiser Barn. And so, in 2004, undaunted by dust and mosquitoes, we launched our inaugural production of My Avisia Winger - an original piece by one of our founders, Brian Oglesby. Since then, we have produced a wide variety of original works.
In 2006, we began the Nights of New Plays Festival. This festival focuses on developing and showcasing original scripts, which we often produce on the main stage in later years. In 2008, Barnyard Theatre incorporated as a non-profit.
Throughout our history, we have partnered with Charlie Hunt and the UC Davis Friends of Acoustic Music to present the Barnyard Music Festival.
The company continues to grow and evolve. Each year, we have fun transforming the barn into a wide variety of performance spaces. We love sharing the beautiful summer sunsets and brand new plays with our audiences.
