The band program serves approximately 200 student musicians in five curricular classes including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, two jazz ensembles and one jazz improvisation ensemble. Co-curricular ensembles include the Bronco Marching Band, basketball pep band, musical pit orchestra and jazz combos. All students in concert bands perform in the Bronco Marching Band. Over the past 20 years, the Marching Band has been invited to perform in California, Toronto, Ontario, Minneapolis and repeatedly in Florida, including the 2011 Walt Disney World Thanksgiving Parade of Bands in Orlando. In January of 2014, the Bronco Marching Band had the incredible honor of being invited to participate in the London New Year’s Day Parade and Festival, the largest parade and festival of its kind in the world. It was an amazing trip for the nearly 100 student performers and 80 family members who attended. What an honor it was!
The Symphonic and Jazz bands consistently earn superior ratings at local, regional and state festival competitions. In 2013, the Barrington High School Jazz Ensemble I earned all superior ratings and 8 outstanding solo certificates, as well as a 2nd place trophy at the largest jazz festival in the Midwest. Over 70% of the students in the Barrington High School band program study with private instructors on their instruments, and students regularly audition and participate in district and state honor groups. Many students participate in the Barrington High School honor music program, performing individual solo works on the BHS honor music recitals, and participate in state and local solo and ensemble festivals.
