KITT visiting the George Barris' place.
Mr. George Barris was one of a kind. Lucky for me I knew him back in the 80's.i remember his daughter being there alot too.great lifetime memories.Thx.George your legend lives on my friend.
Great place, Joji Barris and Steve are one in a million, great tour of the shop, always been a big fan of her dad and the cars he has created. God bless him and rest in peace ! Your talents will be missed and your cars will always be remembered.
It was closed and completely deserted. But I did look in through the showroom window and see the Batmobile and the Munsters mobile. Very cool
In January 2004 I popped in and George Barris was sitting behind a desk as just an average shop owner would anywhere else, of course he wasn't just anyone anywhere else. My older brother had me listen to an interview on NPR with Mr. Barris, in the interview Barris had mentioned the Porsche550 Spyder he built for James Dean and took back after Dean's ill fated crash in Cholame, Ca. Barris toured it up and down the eastern seaboard and through Florida. The day I came by the shop we spoke about his relationship with James Dean, he graciously gave me the time of day, told me "he was a great kid, I miss him". He then allowed me to roam free in the show room as well as an adjacent back room. BOY WHAT A TREAT, I saw the Munster Koach, Batmobile no.1 and the Monkees red GTO lined up next to one another, I was lucky that I was able to catch it on video because I believe within a year or so George Barris sold that GTO. As I was walking out the shop I asked Mr. Barris where he kept Grandpa's original gold "Drag-ula" coffin car. He told me he dismantled it years earlier, I couldn't believe it, that was the one Grandpa used in an episode of the Munsters to win back their family car Herman had lost to a racing pro. Overall it was great to visit with a legend in his HOLY OF HOLYS. Nelson
Batmobile! Munsters mobile! Movie history!
Home of the amazing George Barris and his crew. Creators of the 1966 Batmobile and more.
even though they were closed it was a dude that let me take pictures at the Batmobile from inside the building not through the windows at least that was cool
Very cool if small showroom of George Barris' kustom car culture exploits.
Sad to see it go .... long live George Barris!
