Bartlett House

Description

Bartlett House, a historic railroad hotel, restored in 2016 to house a kitchen, bakery, and cafe. It was built about 1870, and is a three-story, five bay by five bay, square, Italianate style brick building on a raised basement. It features a full width front porch at the primary story and decorative cornice. The name BARTLETT HOUSE appears in white lettering between the second and third stories.HistoryThe Bartlett House was built in 1870 by Ebenezer Bartlett and served as a hotel for railroad travelers. In the mid-1900s, the hotel was the subject of photographs by Walker Evans. The photos were displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Bartlett House continued to operate as a railroad hotel for the New York and Harlem and Hudson and Boston Railroads until about 1948. After the rail line was abandoned, the hotel fell into many years of disuse. In 2012, the Bartlet House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2016, the Barlett House was renovated by investors and is now open to the public as café and bakery.

"Abuzz with the hum of a state-of-the-art kitchen and bakery, Bartlett House café offers the most approachable and freshest fare around, from scrumptious soups, salads and sandwiches to mouthwatering skillet chicken and roasts. The air is filled with irresistible aromas of the world’s best baking traditions, including exquisite breads, flaky croissants, and reimagined muffins. Complementing these tasty eats is exceptional coffee sourced from Sightglass, a San Francisco-based company specializing in sustainable harvests."

My mom and I stumbled upon this charming eatery on our way home from an overnight in Hudson, NY. We were there on a Sunday around lunchtime. There was a line, but it went quickly, and it gave you time to make your food choices. Everyone there was chatting away happily, and I felt sorry I did not live nearby to enjoy it more often. Food and drink delicious, staff super friendly and helpful, bathroom clean, you can eat in or out. Thumbs up big time for Bartlett House! Parking: Plenty of parking, including handicap.
Nice building. Nice setting. Nice food. Went there for breakfast and had a good selection of pastries and breads. Not a donut fan here but I would have tried one since they looked amazing. Had their bostock and the mini scone, both very well done. The craffin with cream was unpair, might be a bit too sweet but tasted really good. I'll be definitely be back and try this spot for lunch. They have a nice outdoor space too and plenty of parking. Please add bread, butter and jam to your menu!
Fantastic breakfast sandwiches and they serve Sightglass coffee which is a great roaster.Food: 5/5
Cool little spot/find in the middle of absolutely no where. Bakery, breakfast and brunch. I think the 5 stars it definitely warranted given what’s in the area. The food is very good, not amazing. The bakery items looked really good. I just don’t think you will much anything of this quality nearby. I enjoyed the pea hummus and the hash brown was really unique. The roasted veggie quesadilla was good, but it can be improved upon. Really like the drinks, it’s a little expensive. $30 pp for lunch
Yummy!!! Breakfast sandwiches were perfect for after bike ride - we tried 3 different kinds and all were delish . Fresh squeezed orange juice was great and the espresso milkshake was awesome!!! Definitely would go back again!!! Also various seating options outside and inside so good for any weather!
Coffee superb, pastries too. Best in the area by a long long way.Food: 5/5
Had a great birthday lunch here! It was my first time visiting the Bartlett House. I loved learning about the history of the Bartlett House and the transitions to becoming what it is now. The food was scrumptious! Yummy! I highly recommend adding this stop to your agenda. Thank you Bartlett House!!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: Yes
Really great cafe treats and coffee, but the hot chocolate is the star here with their giant homemade marshmallows! We ordered the fried chicken sandwich which is also delicious. They also sell their own jams and other goodies up front.Dine in: YesTakeout: Yes
Had the privilege of attending a Slow Saturday dinner at Bartlett House and couldn't recommend it enough! Amazing food and the ambiance is so warm and inviting. You could really feel the attention to detail from both the back and front of house, and there is something so special about having a community seating time for a shared dinner! Everyone there was having a great time and it was a perfect way to spend the evening.
We love this place! Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing and their multigrain sourdough bread is so good I’m already regretting sharing how good it is, because it sells out fast. We’ve never tried Embers, but that’s next on our list. Always busy, so order in advance for pickup to avoid a long wait.Food: 5/5
