PHI strives to raise awareness about public health issues on a community-wide level and works to coordinate individual-based internship opportunities.
The Bates Public Health Initiative is a student-run club that offers an interdisciplinary environment in which students from different majors can work on and discuss different public health issues facing our communities. The Public Health Initiative strives to both raise awareness about public health issues on a community-wide level and works to coordinate individual-focused internship opportunities on and off campus. Through our approaches, members experience the social, medical, economic, cultural, environmental, educational, and political aspects of public health through developing and assisting with public health outreach programs. We have partnered with the following organizations: Healthy Androscoggin, The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing, Trinity Jubilee Center Free Clinic, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Pine Street Legal, and many more local organizations.
In addition to volunteer and internship opportunities, PHI organizes guest speakers, films, panels, fairs, and other events held on campus throughout the academic year. We also provide students with real-word public health experiences and post-graduate resources to explore potential career opportunities in the public health field.
