For over 80 years, American Florist Supply, Inc. d.b.a. Bay State Farm Direct Flowers has been providing New England florists with all of their floral needs. Being one of the largest importers and distributors in New England, Bay State has achieved unprecedented buying power and farm direct access, allowing us to offer the freshest quality at a competitive price. From our endless variety of fresh cut flowers and plants, to our heavily stocked hard goods department, it is our mission to provide our customers with the best quality products at the greatest value.
Johnson Roses Inc., founded in 1927 by Edward N. Johnson, was a lead distributor of roses in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire for six decades. They were well known for their fresh roses grown right from their Woburn, MA greenhouse. During the 1990’s, Johnson’s shifted production from their Woburn location, to company-owned farms in Ecuador, in order to keep up with the growing demand for roses. In this time, they were able to expand their product line and import flowers directly from farms, by developing strong partnerships with many growers and exporters world wide.
Founded in 1952 by a group of local florists, Bay State Florist Supply of Waltham, MA, quickly evolved into a wholesale florist supplier. By the end of the 70’s, the company was operating out of 6 locations throughout the New England Area and was the predominant floral supplier on the East Coast.
In January 1999, Johnson Roses Inc. and Bay State Florist Supply united to form one company, Bay State and Johnson’s Direct Floral Distributors, and opened a new head quarters in Wilmington, MA. Years down the road, the company took the name American Florist Supply, Inc. d.b.a. Bay State Farm Direct Flowers, and continues to serve all of New England and beyond. For florists outside our delivery range, the company created a national telesales operation based out of Louisville, KY, that ships flowers directly from farms in California, South America, and Holland, to florists nationwide. Today we have 4 walk-in locations in Wilmington, MA, Bedford, NH, Cranston, RI, & E. Patchogue, NY. All locations are fully stocked with all of your floral needs.
Cut Flowers
Our largest department and most popular, the Bay State cut flower team sources everything, from every day carnations to the most unique calla lilies. With three walk in locations, our customers can browse our coolers to pick and choose the flowers they want. Our customers can choose flowers based on grade, price, or even favorite grower. Also, our electronic purchasing system communicates the order directly to the farm. Our comprehensive logistics infrastructure then delivers the order back to the customer’s shop as fresh as if the field were just around back.
Bouquets
With four locations and walk inconvenience, the Bay State bouquet department offers expertly designed arrangements with the same fresh flowers we provide for our cut flower division. Covering every occasion and sentiment, we make sure the size, quality and flower variety are consistent within each bouquet category so that our customers can rely on Bay State every time they order. Drop in shopping is available to for fill our customers’ immediate needs, and full orders can be placed in store or online. Plus consultation with anyone from our team of professional designers is available to assist with ordering to maximize budgets and streamline ordering process.
Plants
Bay State operates three greenhouses and provides a fully stocked inventory of plants at three walk in locations. With a veritable jungle of plant species, ranging from big, leafy greens to exotic blooms, our customers can find popular crowd pleasers and the unique attention getters of the plant world. All backed by the knowledge and expertise from our friendly staff. Utilizing only premium growers and suppliers, Bay State insures that the only the highest quality, heartiest plants are delivered to our customers doors. Seasonal varieties or year round staples, Bay State offer a complete selection of customer pleasing flora.
Hard Goods
What floral shop or department would be complete without the vases, foam, silk flowers and other tools necessary to fulfill customer’s needs? At Bay State we understand what it takes to run a flower business and know the right equipment is vital to the operation. We offer a variety of vases in different colors, shapes and sizes, stock floral foam, balloon, baskets, pots, wire, and other essentials to complete any floral project. Plus, our helpful staff is always on hand to determine which tools and accessories our customers need to have on hand for everyday orders and special requests.
