Description
Bear Peak is a mountain summit in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 8459ft peak is located in Boulder Mountain Park, 8.3km south-southwest (bearing 206°) of downtown Boulder in Boulder County, Colorado, United States.
The hike was tough and steep but well worth it for the views. I recommend downloading a map because signal is sparse, the trail was less obvious in some places and splits off to other trails. The wildflowers were incredible.
Bear Peak is one of my favorite hikes in Boulder. It is much less traveled than the flatirons but offers views that rival all other peaks in the area. The trek up is strenuous and can be grueling at times. The elevation gain is quick at the top and definitely takes your breath away. Most of the trail to the peak is covered which makes it a lot better with not burning up from the sun. There are a few aspens up near the top which is nice in the fall. This an amazing winter hike as well as the dynamics completely change with snow up on the peak. I cannot recommend this hike enough, just take plenty of water and food, and take your time!!
Holy moly! The hike up to Bear Peak is not easy; it's quite the workout in fact. From the parking lot at NCAR, it's roughly three miles up with about 2,500 ft. of elevation gain. The views are absolutely stunning though. It's well worth the effort to get up to the peak.
The climb to Bear Peak is fun! I start at Bear Canyon trailhead. It’s 6.8 miles and 2850’ of elevation gain round trip. The entire hike was very scenic, there are some steep inclines to make it a great workout. It can get windy and cold once you up the the ridge, so it’s always good to have a windbreaker with you!
Greats views of the front range. Not a bad hike. As you approach the top of bear peak if your coming from W Ridge Trail it's pretty exposed due to a recent fire, but other than that it's a great hike that's not to far away.
Great place to hike
Spikes are good at the end but aren't make or break if you're careful, unbelievably beautiful hike
Extremely beautiful hike, not the easiest, but it definitely Worth it.
Spectacular peak and amazing views from the top! Shanahan Trail starts with a nice forest walk gradually inclining. It gets to a point where it is rocky and significantly more inclined. It's a gorgeous hike where you will climb over 800m in less than 4 km. Be prepared, it will be tough but worth it.
Challenging hike. The views are amazing. You need spikes if you hike in winter.
