THE HIGGINS MODERN ART EXHIBITION A friend and I went to see the modern art exhibition at the Higgins in Bedford. You may not appreciate modern art but please give this collection a chance. It's free to enter, so you have everything to gain to broaden your knowledge of art. Discussing the art with my friend afterwards, we could both see a lot more in many of the pieces than we had first thought. Many of the artists are British, including work by David Hockney.
Excellent exhibition on art in the last 100 years. Captions for the art were informative, short and easy to read. The only downside was the noisy air conditioning.
I took my children here for a homeschooling outing and they absolutely loved it. There are plenty of play areas/interactive features to keep children engaged throughout.
Interesting local museum and gallery. Free entry. Partially-closed due to water damage but still worthwhile.
Lovely little museum. Kids would love it. Especially the antique penny arcade games. You can purchase old coins from the shop/cafe. A lovely afternoon visit.
We visited while staying in the area and it was definitely worth visiting, there was a lot to see and it was very interesting. Free entry and in a good location in town.
Well this was unexpected. A fabulous local museum in the town with a curated art collection that would put any capital city's gallery to shame. Kudos to both named curators. Also a fascinating permanent collection. My only tiniest of criticism please remember your audience who would like to capture some of the art by camera. The unintended reflection of some lighting can make this really tricky. Highly recommended though especially the current "Dreams and Nightmares".
Sorry to only give a 4 could not get round as some of the exhibition where closed but what we got to see was excellent will be back
Really good museum, you do need a good couple of hours to fully appreciate everything it has to offer for free. I would highly recommend it.
Great free museum showing off art, old technology, fossils, local historic finds and famous faces of the town. An old victorian house with lots of fascinating items of the era is attached to the main building. Look out for the ghosts... It's known as the most haunted place in Bedford! During the holidays they normally have different events for the family, and attached is a lovely Italian restaurant Nearby are other bars and restaurants. It's also next to the historic Bedford mound and Bedford embankment. Well worth a visit or two.
