The New Bedford Museum of Glass is a wonderful and unique place to visit! My grandfather and I loved seeing the antiques and the art pieces. They have a wonderful display of ancient glass, 19th century glass, works by the top glass makers in the country, and glass animals. It is like a curio cabinet of unusual treasures and many of the pieces have interesting stories. If you happen catch the director when you stop by he will tell you all about them himself! Absolutely loved our visit!! We will be back!!!
Outstanding museum. What a terrific tour our party of 6 enjoyed. Our docent / curator Kurt Nelson was an amazing wealth of knowledge of the New Bedford history of glass makers . We enjoyed his passion for this museum and the extensive knowledge of th he craft and history of the art of glass making. Thank you Kurt for making our visit to New Bedford a terrific outing for us all.
A lovely little gem pun intended in the heart of New Bedford! Most of the glass pieces are from New Bedford. The museum curator is quite knowledgeable and friendly. I learned so much about historic glass making and the artistry of each piece. I will be returning!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Above and beyond anything we expected. We were the only ones there on Christmas Eve and not only is the glass and knowledge amazing he went beyond showing us other parts of the building which at one time was the owners home. Super cute cat to top off the visit. If you are ever in the area it is very much worth the stop. Give extra time if it's not busy!! We spent 2 hrs there.
Amazing staff ask to meet Angus, the museum kitty, if you can! He's mischievous, but knows how to high five!. Very knowledgeable about the glass industry history, glass collection tips and facts, and their museums connections to other artists and museums from outside New Bedford. Beautiful collection with sone stunning pieces.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10
My wife and I visited this museum and we got so much more than we expected. Kirk was an amazing guide and really brought the contents of the museum to life for us. I don’t think I’ve ever had a guide as knowledgeable, passionate, and pleasant as Kirk was. I’d happily go back many more times because I’m sure Kirk has a lot more fascinating and inspiring information to share about the diverse collection he oversees. Absolutely the best bang for my buck I’ve ever gotten in a museum of any kind. Thanks, Kirk, for making our visit so inspiring and memorable.
Surprisingly interesting, especially since we were given a personal, individualized tour we were the only guests at the time. Our tour guide gave detailed anecdotes related to many pieces, and we learned a lot about the history of glassworks in New Bedford.
A glittering wonderland: the New Bedford Museum of Glass in its new home at the James Arnold Mansion! This museum is a true gem, showcasing the world history of glass with special feature on the "art glass capital of the Victorian Era," New Bedford. Expertly curated and beautifully presented, with a delightful gift shop filled with treasures. Oh, and there is a charming little performing Museum Cat who does tricks for visitors! The New Bedford Museum of Glass is an utter delight!
