Description

Belmont Lake State Park, located in West Babylon is a 463-acre day use park bisected by Carll's Creek and Belmont Lake. The park, established in 1926 had been owned by August Belmont and served as farmland for some of Belmont's equestrian activities. Robert Moses chose this park to establish the regional headquarters for all state parks on Long Island in 1935, which serves the public today for region-wide permit sales, park administration and as headquarters for the New York State Park Police.

The park is primarily visited by families seeking outdoor gatherings, picnics, and informal sports activities. It provides a bucolic feeling adjacent to the Southern State Parkway at exit 38 among densely developed neighborhoods. Carll's Creek stretches 4.2 miles south to the Great South Bay with a trail for hiking, biking, and horseback riding along most of that distance. The 42-acre Belmont Lake is encircled by a similar path, making a total of 7.6 miles of multi-use trails. Paddle boats are available for rent on the lake through the summer.

The park's significant natural features include the 26-acre, spring-fed Belmont Lake and a significant wetland complex. The lake provides springtime trout fishing and summer bass fishing for the avid anglers who use the park. It is home to permanent and migratory waterfowl populations. Park visitors enjoy watching Osprey diving from high above to catch fish for their young in the spring. Other waterfowl that can be easily spotted include Northern Shovelers, Mergansers, Teal, Great Blue Heron, and Egrets.

Patrons enjoy activities such as picnicking and using the various game courts and fields. The lake attracts trail walking, fishing and non-motorized boating. The 7.6 miles of trails throughout the park are available for hiking, walking, biking, horseback riding, nature observation and weather permitting, cross-country skiing.

Went on a Sunday during summer. Not too many people around, plenty of space. Was able to rent a boat easily, no wait. $8 dollar entry fee to get into park. $20 dollars to rent a paddle boat. They also have kayaks, and row boats available for rent. A lot of available Parking spots. Lake was nice a lot of birds and small fish. Large selection of trails to walk/Bike in woods and around the lake. Playground: Large playground. Restrooms: Public restrooms, clean Dog-friendliness: Yes, dog friendly. Picnic area: A lot of BBQ’s free to use. Must bring your own charcoal/briskets.
It's one of the most beautiful parks in NY. We had a BBQ party and it was relaxing. The Swan swimming around the lake and the gust sure will wash your stress off the weeks. The ice cream from the cart was so good. The scenery was soothing.
Really nice park, Wifey n I went to a Bengali picnic. Park is clean and well maintained, plenty of parking to accommodate everyone that comes. There was multiple reserved picnics going on, as well as the none reserved part having picnics as well. Also went on the paddle boats, you get 2 hrs to go around the lake, which is plenty of time, plus it's a good workout to get rid of all the food you may eat , over all I recommend this park both for reserved areas and non reserved. Restrooms: Restrooms are clean Picnic area: Plenty of space with installed grills
Cost money during season. Nice playgrounds and lake. There are a lot of ducks and swans here that come very close to people. They have boating during the season. This is a great place.
Beautiful lake, a lot of trails with shadows, few picnic areas You can buy pretty good Mexican food from a food truck if you don't bring enough food or want something else Playground: They have 2 playgrounds Restrooms: Need to be cleaner Picnic area: A lot of tables
It’s a very nice park. There is a area for Punic, play area for kid with slides. Have pedals boats. A very nice lake . You can play socket. You will pay 8 dollars for entering. The payment can be done with cash or credit or debit.
Amazing place for family picnic and kids park. There is basketball court, also field is big enough to play football and cricket and baseball. In the lake also has padel boats for rent.
Trails are nice and sitting by the lake is tranquil during sunset thr boats ate fun too. As much of a dog lover that I am, I hate that not all people don't keep their dogs on a leash nor curb their dogs. I've either stepped in dog poo or have had massive dogs run up to my small children. And the bathrooms are always vile. As if people do not know how to pee in a toilet. Always smell like bleached hot urine. Restrooms: Pray you don't need the womans bathroom or hope you have a strong stomach
Belmont Lake State Park offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. With its picturesque lake, lush greenery, and well-maintained trails, it's a paradise for nature lovers. Whether you want to hike, picnic, or simply unwind, this park delivers tranquility in abundance.
We were looking to see the American Bald Eagle seen in the area; however, there were no sightings this day. We did see a black and white warbler, many red-winged blackbirds and other local birds. The garlic mustard plants were in full bloom and perhaps too tasty to resist for my nephew?
