Benbrook Lake

Description

Benbrook Lake is a reservoir on the Clear Fork of the Trinity River in Tarrant County, Texas, USA. The lake is located approximately 10 miles southwest of the center of Fort Worth, where the Clear Fork and the West Fork of the Trinity River join. The lake is impounded by the Benbrook Dam. The lake and dam are owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District.HistorySignificant flooding on the Trinity River during May 1908, April 1922 and September 1936, was a primary cause for the development of Corps of Engineers flood control projects in North Texas.Benbrook Dam and Lake were built by the Galveston District of the Corps of Engineers. During the decade of active civil works construction following World War II, the U.S. Congress provided for the construction of Benbrook Lake, Grapevine Lake, Lavon Lake and Ray Roberts Lake as well as modifications to the existing Garza Dam for the construction of Lewisville Lake. The River & Harbors Act of 1945 authorized these projects for the purposes of both flood control and navigation. These lakes and others, along with an extensive floodway system of levees, are operated in a coordinated manner to minimize flooding along the Trinity River floodplain corridor in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Great place for fishing. Loved going out to this lake. People at the marina were so friendly too.
5 out of 5 stars! By far the best campground we've been too, and we are seasons rv'ers. The customer service at the gate is phenomenal. Camps are clean, just a wonderful place. Highly recommend staying here!!
Great area. There are quite a few different areas of the lake and parks around it. Some of the less than enthusiastic reviews are a surprise. I go mainly to the parks for my dogs walk. If it's time of day or some of the closed campground areas, it's a great place for the get some off leash time, which is against the law. However the spirit of law is so dogs don't remain under control and don't bother people, dogs or wildlife. We've bumped into other people, and dogs. Everyone leashes until back up, chat for a minute, unleashes and go about their day. The rangers have reminded more once or twice to make sure they are under control and NOT chase the deer or other wildlife. Always cordial and understanding that dogs need to stretch their legs. Somedays the parks are completely empty. We can do 3 or 4 miles of walking/running. In the warmer months, the dogs love wading in the water to escape the 108° summer days. My dogs love love the hot weather. The only issue is these fringe areas of the parks and shores do get little to much litter. It's always people that come in and leave behind the cans/food bags etc. Always next to a pile of rocks that was obviously made to be a seat. Little disappointing that people can't take their trash 50 feet back to parking lot full of trash cans and dumpsters.
Great Lake the Waters Blue and it's only 5 dollars for all day.
So quiet and so many places to swim. This place has been an escape for me lately.
Another nature gem !! I enjoy coming here to clear my mind, talk with mature and Journal. The water is so relaxing, the lake is huge. There are trails scoring the lake as well to get a mini hike in.
Great lake with a good variety of fish. More boat friendly, but has shore fishing spots
We couldn’t find an open boat ramp. They were all closed.
Huge Lake. And pleasant parks around. Clean and amazing views. Nice place speed boating, jet skiing and fishing. Enjoyed.
Staff friendly, not real familiar with park. It is spread out. Low rating is due to exceptional number of low tree branches. Some so bad couldn't drive a car under without scratching. Been in allot of ACE parks, this tge worst. Party next door on Fri till hrs past quiet time. Unfortunately they don't have a key pad like many places do you can get in after 10
