BFHP provides food and shelter, transitional and permanent housing, and housing placement with support services to homeless individuals and families.
Berkeley Food and Housing Project (BFHP) is a Berkeley-based nonprofit organization committed to empowering homeless and struggling members of our community to transform their lives. As a valued member of the Berkeley community, we have been partnering with local businesses, the faith-based community, and local government since 1970.
We believe everyone in our society has the right to food and housing, and that given the right tools and conditions, most people have the desire and ability to move themselves forward. With this underlying belief, we provide an extensive range of practical services and support. But more than that, we partner with our clients to help them develop the skills they need to achieve long-lasting results, independence and ongoing success.
Berkeley Food & Housing Project (BFHP) provides the broadest range of quality food, housing and support services for the Berkeley community. Our services include:
*Coordinated Entry System (CES). The CES, run in partnership with the City of Berkeley, is the first point of contact for anyone who is homeless and seeking services in Berkeley. Our goal is to prioritize those most in need and match them to appropriate services.
* The only emergency shelter program for men, women, and children in the area, providing beds for almost 100 people in Berkeley each night.
*The largest number of permanent housing placements in the county: more than 1,000 placements over the past three years.
*Recognized in the county as a model for permanent supportive housing facility for mentally ill men & women.
* Comprehensive program (ROADS Home) of shelter and services for homeless veterans in collaboration with the Veterans Association (V.A.)
* Two-year transitional housing for homeless women with psychiatric disabilities in collaboration with Berkeley Mental Health.
* Professional case management services to assist with housing, health, and social support.
* The longest running food program in the area, serving more than 100,000 nutritious free meals per year.
Berkeley Food and Housing Project (BFHP) works with people on low incomes, those who are homeless, have disabilities or require mental health support, men, women, and children, as well as veterans.
To ease and end the crisis of homelessness in our community, Berkeley Food and Housing Project provides emergency food and shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, and housing placement with support services to homeless individuals and families.
