Billings Bridge Plaza

Description

The Billings Bridge Centre is a shopping centre located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is a medium-sized community mall with about 90 stores. Roughly 7.5 million people visit the mall every year and sales were about $527/sq foot. When built it was the first strip mall in Ottawa, although it has since become an enclosed mall.It is located immediately south of the Rideau River on the corner of Bank Street and Riverside Drive, beside a large athletics complex, the RA Centre. The anchor stores are Walmart and Your Independent Grocer.HistoryIt opened in 1954 as "the first one-stop shopping destination to serve all of the City of Ottawa" according to its owners. At 65750sqft it was Ottawa's first strip plaza. When it was built it had only six stores, of which only Reitmans remains to this day. CIBC and Fairweather were also very early tenants which remain. In 1962 the mall underwent a major expansion to 23 stores which made it one of the largest shopping centres in Ottawa at the time. A 1961 Ottawa Citizen article covering the mall expansion claimed "the new centre by its accessibility to through highways, will become not only one of the largest shopping plazas in the district but one of the finest in the country."Ottawa department store Ogilvy's opened a location at Billings Bridge in the 1962 expansion. Ogilvy's was replaced by Robinson's, which was replaced by discount retailer Zellers in 1996, by Target Canada in 2013 and Walmart Canada in May 2016.

I used to go to the soundbound Billings Bridge shopping mall before, and knew that not much renovation there. Anyhow,,the location is convenient for commuters to travel any directions with the OC Tranpo services both by train and by bus. If you travel east-west , take a bus to Hurdman Station for O train and ride to Blair or Tunney's Pasture by train.
Billings Bridge is one of the oldest early settler communities in Ottawa. With a rich heritage of trade and commerce. The Billings family settled in the area in 1812 and developed businesses in the timber/ sawmill and agricultural sectors. Later the area's businesses grew and diversified to support the growing population and industry needs of Bytown and the surrounding area. It was only fitting that the site of Billings Bridge became home of Ottawa's first strip plazas, which opened in 1954. Today Billings Bridge shopping centre hosts a variety of stores, restaurants, banks and office spaces. With its ample parking lot and convenient location it is a great place to satisfy your shopping needs. After getting your shopping done at Billings Bridge walk down to the river side and look at the water and feed the ducks and bridge up your fingers for my videos, photos or reviews
Good overall shopping center. It can be very useful and sometimes busy since it is the only shopping center in the area that gathered this many kinds of stores. From cosmetic shops to travel shop, add to that the 2 main banks not to mention Walmart. This is great place to do your errands, do business and see plenty of people.
I heard that security couple from the Mall was having a Mall guest's bags inside the Information Desk, while the woman was looking for it around the Dining Area, where she left them on a chair under the other woman control only for few minutes. Bags without any announcement were opened by security and badly shaveled out. Next day the bags were stolen from the 7th floor of the Government and Business offices building. Very strange curcumstensis. What you think ?
Because it's an indoor mall, I would suggest bringing a cart on wheels so that you don't have to carry too much or even to put your coat in. You don't need a winter coat in there. Lots of parking with various entrances. Lots of great shops in there.
Well laid out shopping centre with plenty of name brand stores and boutiques. One-stop shopping that is easily accessible by car or public transit.
I'm surprised this mall is still standing. There's lots of old stores in here but some are starting to shut down. There is one shop I absolutely love in this mall. I can't remember the name, but he sells important goods from countries around North Africa and the Middle East. There's some beautiful quality pieces in there and all very original.
It's a shopping mall that's pretty conveniently located. I thought this place was slow because I went there during lunch hours but I went at night and it's pretty slow then too. I guess it's part of its relaxed nature. Don't come here if you have to get things done right away. Come here to experience a local relaxing mall. Friendly people and overall niceness
Boring but at least they got a dollarama and a food court, but there's no stores that are actually cool
They've been working on making the mall more modern, there's a lot of shops geared for the elderly.
