The entrance has the permits right at the front. Its a manless stand where you fill out the permit place it in the window and put the money in the associated envelope of your permit. The campsites are pretty spacious. There is a dumpster. A water fountain and onsite porterpotties. Great trees for hammocks. The water isn't swimmable but located within 10 mins are water access points. Campsite 4 is downhill and we got flooded and had to divert water but it was warm the rain didn't stop us from having a blast

A small, wooded campground tucked away on the west side of Sanford Lake, which is empty currently. Scheduled to be a lake again in 2024 The campground is on the Black Creek, which still retains about the same level of water it always has due to it being held back from draining by a culvert at the West River Rd bridge The creek is quite large in front of the campground, approximately 50 yards wide. A popular spot for Crappe fishing in the winter and spring. There's a store and gas station close by and an abundance of state forest areas adjacent to the campground. One can find trails in the forest that go miles north, south and west. When the lake returns, a camper will be able to take a boat out into Sanford Lake from the campground thanks to the rebuilt West River Rd bridge over the creek, which is now large enough for a small watercraft to travel under. This area is treated for mosquitoes, along with neighborhoods in the area. Nice campground, always quiet and almost never full with large lots spread out over several loops.
This is a party park, beer bottles caps all over each site. The low lifes on site 6 were up until 3am. There hearing must go bad when they drink because the more they drank the the louader they got and higher the radio volume got. 09/08/2019 . The outhouse toilet seat are very low to the floor. Very hard to get off the pot if you have bad knees. Never did find the boat launch, banks along Back Creek very steep to walk down. Good luck. Wilson State Park is suppose to manage this park, all they do is collect the money from the steel post at the registration box and leave.
Cute campground. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done! DNR drive through regularly. Restrooms: Outhouses that are generally kept up. Sometimes the campers forget to close the lid. There are a couple sets of outhouses for everyone's convenience. Dog-friendliness: Just keep up on their poop!
Beautiful place for camping!
Crazy. Sept. 23, 2022. Pull up with my camper about 6-6:15pm to find it gated off and locked. So disappointed. Nothing online saying it's closed. Fortunately there was a turnaround that allowed me to get out of there. Bummed.
Love the layout of this campground. Multiple loops off the main camp road. Greatly decreases traffic flowing past your site. Good mixture of spread out sites and closer sites. Most sites have at least partial shade during a portion of the day. Some morning/noon, some noon evening. DNR patrolled or were present, multiple times per day, the 3 days I stayed. 4 stars due to normal annoyances ie. Generators, trash in sites, fire pit nearly full. It really is a nice place. We really need to do better as humans and pick up after ourselves. Oh, and ducks would land in the creek every evening, fireflies were amazing, as well as the bull frogs singing at night. Would go again.
