We just had an amazing four night stay at Sun Outdoors Chesapeake Bay. From the moment we arrived instantly became one of our favorite campgrounds. The location/scenery from the water view sites are incredible, made the trip. We had the best seat in the campground for fireworks, could see/hear live music from our spot while being a short walk to beach area. Golf cart rental for wife and I to get to other campground amenities and to entertain our dog riding through nice wooded camping sites was a nice perk. We enjoyed multiple visits to both pools, snack bar for ice cream and relaxing hours on beach area laying in hammocks cooling off in bay. The beach with best views in campground was often less crowded than pool so worked out well for us. The other campground neighbors were respectful, friendly while enjoying themselves. Front desk and grounds workers were so nice and accommodating. No one was checking into our spot until the next day so took advantage of late 4pm checkout so wife and I could soak in every last second of water views from our swing. Highly recommend while visiting nearby Chincoteague go on a site seeing boat tour with Captain Dan and eat dinner at The Pearl restaurant. This is our second time visiting a Sun Outdoors property Other Ocean City they have been impressive and you get nice accommodations for your stay. This place has definitely made short list of regular campgrounds well visit multiple times in future years.
This Sun Outdoors Location is the absolute worst. We reserved a week long stay during Fourth of July week. The website is misleading demonstrating picturesque photos of waterfront property. What they do not tell you is that the entire campground is filled with drainage ditches with standing water. Mosquitoes everywhere!! We were eaten alive and unable to sit outdoors. There is absolutely NO WIFI, phone service or cable. We could not make or receive calls. We could not look up “things to do” in the area or even watch TV. The cost was almost $200.00 per night. The amenities offered could not be utilized due to the mosquito infestation. My children were eaten alive. Sun outdoors charges astronomical prices for “state park conditions.” We stayed one night and spoke to Kim Scott, manager, the following morning. Ms. Scott was attentive, kind and was able to cancel the rest of our stay. We left immediately and changed to Sun outdoors Ocean City. Sun outdoors Corporate office needs to address this situation. This should not be left to the campground manager to handle. It is unfair and unacceptable. I have left phone messages and emails for the past 6 weeks in an attempt to speak with the area operations manager. I have not received a phone call back. The water drainage problem needs to be addressed and rectified immediately. It is not acceptable to charge “high end” prices as well as “resort” fees for a campground that is not a resort. DO NOT reserve this campground until the Sun Outdoors steps up to make necessary changes!!!
Talk about way off the beaten path. The wifi is horrible. We had the pleasure of 2 drunks stumble in to the back of our motor home at 4:45 A.M. and once I got outside the explained that they had too much to drink while fishing. The site was level and it did have a nice cement pad. The flies were plentiful, almost the worst we've seen all spring/summer during our travels. Glad we were only there a few days. Definitely will not return.
Hello, I want to start of by saying Sun Outdoors Chesapeake Bay is a beautiful camp/RV site. I want to send a special thank you to all the staff for helping and assisting with my husbands injury on the playground while we were on a mini vacation for Labor Day weekend. The staff of Sun Outdoors and Saxis Fire Co./EMTs were awesome. They helped keep my husband as well as myself calm.. We truly felt like we were with family.. They were genuinely caring of all our needs. All of Sun Outdoors staff were there ready to assist. If I could give them 10!!!! I would. !!!! We can’t wait to visit again next year.. minus the slide… lol.. Thank you all again .
Our campsite was a water view and included a concrete pad. We were fortunate since the rest of our family was left in a muddy mess on the lower sites. Our site did not include septic, which was NOT noted or advertised on the website or booking confirmation. The mosquitoes were absolutely horrible, no matter how many times they sprayed. No amount of bug spray could fight off those mosquitoes. The Wi-Fi was pretty much nonexistent, which should have been made known. The sunset views near the beach were scenic, however it was more like mud and rocks underneath and not sandy. The pool area with the kids splash pad was nice, but it would have been better with a deeper pool. 3 1/2 feet deep meant squatting in the water which was less than ideal. The other “adult pool” was like 2 hot tubs put together and not much deeper. The food was good, notably the crabby fries and crab cake sandwich. The arcade was small, dark, and musty with an handful of games available. Overall we made the best of our trip and enjoyed the time with family but we won’t be back to this Sun Outdoors location.
Very relaxing property. Excellent customer service from the staff, accommodating and welcoming. One of the best well kept properties I’ve seen in the area. I really enjoyed walking around the property. The outdoor decor of some was creative and inspiring. Great experience overall. Rooms: Very clean and comfortable.
It’s built on a swamp. Your space will be a mud pit. @sun outdoors don’t reply saying it’s raining, it was this way when we pulled up. Remove the old trailers upfront, it’s a campground, not a junk yard. Now the views are great, the staff were relatively friendly. In all save yourself the trouble go to Sun Outdoors Cape Charles or KOA Cape Charles. Same price roughly and far better. The best part is this tiki bar in the town next door called Capt E’s. It’s right on the bay and as local as it gets. 5 Stars. In all, I choose Sun Outdoors for quality and this should not have a Sun Outdoors sign out front.
This campground does have beautiful views, but we won’t be back. It is very buggy, marshy and wet. It rained one morning and turned the entire place into a swamp. I couldn’t even walk to see my parents on their site because they were surrounded by deep mud puddles. The Wi-Fi is very poor and the beach swimming is rocky and mucky.Service: 3/5
Great campground. However, if you need to make a phone call, send a text, check emails, check into work or do anything online, forget about it! If it’s raining and either the kids want to watch movies or do anything online, it is not good at all. We are out in the open with multiple wireless devices on poles and it’s still horrible. Wish they would find a company to provide a good network. My understanding is they have spent a lot of money and it’s worse now than when the previous owners were here!
Loved our stay here, we were here for Pony Penning. Sites are nice and spacious, bathrooms are clean and the pool is huge. A couple of negatives, LOTS of mosquitos although they spray regularly so they try to control them. And having Verizon service we had very little internet capability so that may be of interest to you. We also have a DISH satellite receiver and it never picked up any satellites because of the trees, but the trees also provided welcome shade because it was very hot. But overall we enjoyed our stay and Chincoteague is a really cute town!
