Bought dinner tickets with a show to save a little and had no problem using them here at the restaurant. It's an absolutely beautiful environment in the heart of Shipshewana amidst shopping and sightseeing. Suggest dinner before 5 if you don't want to wait but this place is well worth the wait. We had buffet downstairs and food was fabulous with great selection. Breaded Shrimp was best ever! Desert bar had so many pie selections it was difficult to pick. Coconut cream was best ever had, full of coconut! Wonderful, calming atmosphere with gorgeous oak trimming throughout. Bathrooms beautiful decor! Very clean and tidy. Friendly, helpful and very pleasant staff. Love this restaurant and highly recommend.
A favorite place. I usually eat here when I get tickets for a show, and yesterday was no different. I love that there are choices, menu and buffet, as well as all you can eat menu. Yesterday I ate after the show since it was an early matinee play. I was so pleasantly surprised to have several of the actors come down and serve food in the restaurant. I loved it. Everything is in the same building including the bakery and the gift shop, and there is always plenty of parking. The place is so beautifully decorated year around.
Paid for the buffet dinner with our concert tickets and we still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. It was very organized but I wish we could have had a better window for dinner like half hour incirments or something like that. The buffet had soups, salad, 3 main meats braised beef, fried chicken, and meatloaf and an entire table of desserts. The buffet included soda or water and the breading on the fried chicken was outstanding, so tender and delicious. They had apple butter and peanut butter spread for you to try on bread and they sell these both in the bakery. The best fried chicken I've had so far. While we waited, we shopped around inside and visited the Bakery. Lots of sweets and random things for sale.
Visited and tried their breakfast buffet in the lower level, as well as explored the bakery and loved the creek along the western exterior. Very cool atmosphere! A good standard selection of food at the buffet, great for trying a bit of everything this Amish community is about from pies and cookies to very good beef & noodles!
We had a great meal there on Monday, returning to Sturgis to sleep and drove back to Blue Gate for lunch the next day. Perfect food for our three hour drive back to Indy. The food is so good and the staff is nice and attentive. Can’t wait to return.
Visited Shipshewana for the Ice sculpture festival and stopped in at the Blue Gate Restaurant. I enjoyed all the gift shops within the restaurant. There is also a theater inside where they have shows on certain dates. I ordered the sampler plate and it was delicious. It slows you to sample the roast beef, chicken and the meatloaf on one plate! It also comes with mashed potatoes and your choice of corn or green beans and includes a garden salad. It was reasonably priced and had good portions. The lemonade is to die for! I also tried the coconut cream pie and it was also very good! They also have an option to eat at the buffet downstairs! I recommend this place if you're in the area and don't forget to check out the onsite bakery!
We ate dinner and the food was served family style. The chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans were tasty. The pies coconut cream and blueberry were great tasting. We went to the theatre also and enjoyed the Christmas show very much. The theatre seats are a little tight.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
I could wander around this place for a whole day, not to mention load up on delicious meals and sweets. The exterior of the building is old timey small town looking, with pretty landscaping and water features. The food was great, country-style, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. They have beautiful pictures and paintings and souvenirs upstairs and downstairs. Great place to visit with the family.
Me and my fiance went to the country salute to the stars here at the blue gate bakery and restaurant theater and it was amazing! The people who played dolly, Kenny Roger's and elevis did an outstanding job. Their voices were right on point and sounded amazing and looked just like them. My fiance thought she was actually at a dolly Parton concert the way she sounded so good. I highly recommend anybody to go hear. We will definitely be back again real soon.
Even though the town was packed, there was no wait for service. Two of us had chicken, mashed potatoes and noodles which was good, very filling. One of us had their fried chicken which she said was delicious. We were too full for dessert, but there was lots to chose from in their bakery.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entry$16–20
