Blue Lake Aikido strives to spread the physical and philosophical teachings of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba. He believed, and the owners of Blue Lake Aikido believe, that world peace will come about when violence is eliminated.
What is Aikido?
Developed by Morihei Ueshiba, known to practitioners as“O-Sensei” (Great Teacher), Aikido is the marriage of the physical techniques of Daito-ryu Aikijujitsu and the philosophy of Omoto-kyo Shinto.
Aikido utilitzes throws, takedowns, and redirections to resolve conflicts. Aikido techniques are based not on physical power, but on the fluid movement of Ki (energy) from one’s Hara (center of balance).
Through Aikido one will learn to move with total freedom, unrestrained by rigid forms. One learns that trusting one's heart is the most important element to self-defense. Grace comes in the form of flowing movements. Power comes from the confidence of knowing one is safe.
The Mission of the Blue Lake Aikido Dojo is to create a large community of self-responsible children and adults committed to the practice of Aikido as the Budo that Morihei Ueshiba O'Sensei envisioned for the world.
