A short history of the Library.
1894-Free public library services in Breathitt County with the Kentucky Federation of Women's Club effort known as the Traveling Library project which sent book boxes to places in Kentucky.
1930-February 5- Breathitt County Library purchased the old Hargis Commercial BankBuilding on Main Street
1967-Voters overwhelmingly approved the creation of the Breathitt CountyPublic Library Taxing District.
1972-The Library purchases the Red Reynolds' Ford Dealership and moves to College Avenue
2004-The Breathitt County Public Library begin the planning of a future building project.
2012-October 9- The Breathitt County Public Library Board purchases the CollegeAvenue Building of Hazard Community and Technical College. This is now known the Library Annex building
