Description

Our Heritage
For over 125 years, BRETTSCHNEIDER-TRETTIN-NICKEL FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATION SERVICES has provided countless families in Appleton and the Fox River Valley with compassionate care during their time of greatest need. Since Joseph Brettschneider opened his funeral home in 1887, there has been one thought and one direction: to serve the needs of this community in an honest and caring manner.
During the late 1800's, David Brettschneider continued in his father’s footsteps and operated the firm until 1930. In 1907, August Trettin and George Bissing went into partnership with David Brettschneider. August Trettin continued his involvement until 1940 when his son Arthur took over the firm. Arthur Trettin retired in 1984. That year, Art's son Jim Trettin together with Ken Lederer purchased the funeral home. Jim's son Tim Trettin joined the firm in 1999. Following Jim's retirement in 2009, Tim Trettin and Ken Lederer operated the funeral chapel. Upon Ken Lederer’s retirement in 2011, Scott Nickel joined Tim Trettin in operating the firm. Now in our second century and 4th generation of service, we at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services will continue to perpetuate the ideals on which this business was founded. "OUR FAMILY CARING FOR YOUR FAMILY."
Since our beginning, we have been an INDEPENDENT, FAMILY-OWNED and LOCALLY OPERATED funeral home.
We pay grateful tribute to past leaders of this firm: Joseph Brettschneider, David Brettschneider, George Bissing, August Trettin, Arthur Trettin, James Trettin and Kenneth Lederer.

It was great to have Scott assist me through the funeral process for my husband. From the initial meeting to create his obituary, the showing, the funeral service and the gathering that followed. During my time of grief it was wonderful to have Scott as a resource so nothing was missed. He was very easy to work with.
It doesn't look large from the outside, but inside, it is large and roomy to accommodate many people. There are many places to have your beloved one displayed from pictures to special items of their life displayed. The staff is very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. And good place for a person's last place to before they are to rest in Peace
I never thought I would have to deal with the unexpected loss of my husband at such a young age…I was not prepared. Scott Nickel and his staff were wonderful to work with and showed extreme compassion to me and my family. He and his staff helped me through the entire process and made dealing with the unimaginable seem tolerable. I can’t express enough thanks and gratitude to Scott and his staff for getting me through that time. Highly recommend him to anyone.
My wife died unexpectedly 7/7/23. We both have pre planned funeral arrangements thru BTN. The staff was polite, supportive and generous with their time. They made an expected difficult time for my children and myself smooth & uneventful. Arrangements were made quickly, efficiently, and options were explained clearly with no attempt to "upsell". They understood what we needed & made it happen with a minimal effort on our part. I highly recommend their services to anyone suffering the loss of a family member. From a 3 AM body transport from our home to the final disposition, BTN performed over and above expectations.
There are no words to express how thankful I am with their service. Joyce is amazing, thoughtful, a true genuine individual… The facility was clean, and I felt invited. The Gentleman that help with my mothers remains, I’m sorry I forgot your name, but I thank you both for your sincere kindness.
Very friendly and helpful. A pleasure doing business at this sad time.
The pain and anguish of losing a child is something no parent should have to go through. But I have found some comfort in the staff at Brettschneider funeral home. They treated me, my family and my beloved son’s remains with the upmost respect, care and compassion. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. With the utmost gratitude, I thank them. Blessings to all. Sharron Lapotko
I came unexpectedly from out of town, and they accommodated me wonderfully. They popped out at me when I was looking for guidance, and I wouldn't change the service they provided to my family for nothing! You will not get the service from another funeral home like this one, ever. They treat you just like family, you need that especially in your moment of grieving.
5 stars aren't enough for the level of care and compassion you will find here.
Beyond caring and helpful!
