The outstanding features of Brookes Park are the historic buildings that have been relocated to the park including the Knobbe House mid-1800s, the Little Red Schoolhouse 1852 Elm Grove School, and the Utz-Teson House. There is also a pavilion a bar-b-que, picnic areas, a playground, and restrooms. Take care not to fall on the overabundance of sweetgum balls! It appears that they have lost a lot of old growth trees recently. I hope they are able to plant more shade trees.
Nice little park. No frequented by too many people.
Great park that's not very busy. It's almost hidden. This is also a historical site too.
This park is odd. The first third or so of the space is quite nice, with a lovely gazebo and a few historical buildings plus a cute time capsule garden. But then there's just a big empty space of grass and far on the other side is the playground. It feels forgotten, it doesn't appear to be very well maintained and there isn't even a path to it. With all the rain and crews not being able to mow as often that meant a tromp across the "field" in somewhat tall grass. I wouldn't really suggest this park for it's playground, but perfectly nice to have your lunch on a bench or under the gazebo.
The grounds are right next to HWY 270 so it is very loud here. The playground is tucked back in the corner so you cross over a field. The playground is run down. The mulch has turned to dirt and leaves. It's not maintained. This would be a great place for a picnic due to gazebo, field and playground except you would have to yell at eachother to hear and playground is run down. I gave 2 stars due to mature trees for coverage in summer near playground which is rare and the historic buildings are neat. Otherwise don't bother.
This park is so peaceful and relaxing. There is a nice playground for kids 2-12 yes old. Big gazebo & grill, nice restrooms.
Cute little playground underneath a canopy of trees. There is an old, historic schoolhouse, and two other historic buildings.
Nice park. Very hidden, so no crowds.
Beautiful grounds & Pavilion. Well lit
