If you care about your fa mily members don't send them, I can't stress this enough. If you have complaints the people in charge will rarely see or talk to you. The place is constantly understaffed, somedays it's only 1 nurse and 1 aide per 20 patients. When shift change they take hours to check on you to see how the previous tour left you. They make up their own hours come in late leave early. It can be orders in the system for you to have something done today and you can complain for days before someone will do it even if runs the chance of you getting an infection. They feed you like a toddler in pre-school, and when you order your food it takes you between 1-2 hours after delivery before you eat. If it's a brightside to this place it's THERAPY, if you're lucky to get there. THIS PLACE IS SERVERLY UNDERSTAFFED, don't send your love ones here!!! I'm a patient here been requesting a meeting with the D.O.N for weeks answered the phone one time still haven't made it too my room
I would give negative stars if I could: My mother was prescribed subacute/rehab care after diagnosis of multiple health issues. Within a matter of 2 months she has been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer, had a massive heart attack with 100% blockage, multiple strokes, and an abdominal tumor. The photos on google are not of Brookhaven Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in East Orange---DON'T BE FOOLED!!! The indoor photos are of another facility with a similar name in another state. We were admitted to BCRH on Friday evening; 05/05/23; immediately my sister and I were skeptical about our choice. The front desk staff are tolerable, but have no personality. No one gives off an inkling of wanting to work there or take care of the sick and elderly. The meals provided are comparable to the worst school lunch program you could imagine. My mother was continuously served meals that were not compatible with improving health. Heart attack 48 hours ago= Ham and cheese hoagie with plain potato chips... among other offending meals. Whenever I went to the nurses station I was ignored every time by staff sitting at the desk. When I was acknowledged I would be told with the wave of a hand to "go find her nurse down the hall." A staff member confronted and yelled at the roommate of our mother right in front of us and I could hear her cursing, in conversation, in the hall with another staff member on another day. I was under the impression that on Monday, with a full bustling weekday staff things would improve---WRONG!!!! The 2nd floor smells of urine and the floor is stained and breaking from the walls foundation everywhere. I came there everyday and stayed a minimum of 6 hours each day; I never saw anyone clean any part of the room, bathroom, floors, tables, or even mop the main hall. The patients rooms are long overdue due for updating and repairs. I have worked in healthcare and public health for over 13 years and had no high expectations for the weekend staff we were prepared to support the staff and our mother with her care but I was not prepared for what occurred over the next 4 days. Last night we signed our mother out after a major incident with her pain medication and multiple staff members. We took her directly back to the hospital only to find out she now has fluid around her heart and a urinary tract infection not necessarily due to her stay, but unnoticed by BCRH. I will be writing a letter to the State of NJ Department of Health, NJ Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Mayor Greene of East Orange as well as the directors and administrators of this "facility." It is deplorable that people are being housed in this place and the entire site needs retraining or re staffing.
My mother-in-law stayed at Brookhaven Center for Rehab and Healthcare recently. This was a great experience for our family. Welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable nurses/staff. Thank you, Brookhaven.
This place should be shut down. The techs are horrible. Thank God my family member has has some decent nurses so far. However one fay he called the front desk 2xs. Each time the person that answered him got out of her seat and came by his room. She never came in his room to see if he was OK or what he wanted. She was too busy asking g who has room ###? Smh!! By the 3rd time his nurse came, she was helping another patient. She was very upset that the lady never came in thr room to see what my cousin wanted. They are literally starving the people there. They don't get balanced meals and the portions aren't enough for a small child. One day my family member was given a piece of chicken and a piece of cornbread. What is that??? Everyday the portions are smaller and smaller. They don't have a choice in what they eat. You either eat what's being served or you will be hungry. Unless your family brings you food. Today 4/10/2023 at Brookhaven my relative was given 3 French toast sticks and 2 sausage for breakfast. Lunchtime he was given watered down spaghetti. At dinner he was given an ice cream scoop size of plain rice. Smh!!! What is going on in this place???? How is this even ok?? Something needs to be done. I'm so glad he only has a few more weeks there. What about the people that are there long term? I feel bad for them. Smh!! Sad!!
My grandma absolutely loves the place she doesn't stop talking about the amazing staff and nurses and how well they are taking care of her
Establishment Must be under new management staff attitudes and customer experience got better! Thank you to the corporate personal who emailed me back and forth to correct my issue. My mom loves it here and couldn’t thank you enough for the services you provides to her. Working in healthcare is extremely Hard and Brookhaven staff makes it look easy.
In general, we are more comfortable when family takes care of family. It's understood admitting a close family member to a rehab center is rather emotionally difficult, considering visit regulation cannot be a substitute for being around them around the clock. However, with the health challenges my brother has been experiencing this summer, it is clear he needed a place where he can be supervised and have constant attention and caring of and by professionals so that he can get back to better health sooner than later. Being at the Brookhaven Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in East Orange turned out to be the right thing place for him. The facility is well equipped and well-regulated to meet all of his caring needs. Overall, I am very pleased with the staff from the reception desk to the activity team, as well as the admin folks, and the support team ... In particular, a chance meeting with the Director of Social Services Wayne Cameron to answer a few basic questions, Mr. Cameron proceeded to schedule a group meeting with several support staff so that I have the most up-to-date and historical progress of my brother since he became a resident at Brookhaven facility for the past 4 weeks. Chaired by Mr. Cameron, the team was generous with their time to share insights with me of his overall health on many levels e.g. physical, mental, emotional. At the end of which, I have clarity of their observations around activities he is engaged, how he responds to his challenges or interacts with the staff, his progress trend, etc. It was time well-spent for a multi-dimensional insight from the professionals in attendance ... Thank you again! In short, I am pleased with the care my brother is receiving; The warmth, genuine, friendliness, professionalism, and transparent dialog with the staff reaffirmed my brother is in the right place for the best care until he is back to better health. I have a profound respect for those whose passion to caring, supersedes that of the demand of their job; in so doing, we have the comfort and peace of mind that our family is the right hands and in the right place. Thank you again!
I went to go visit my grandfather P.Jones one afternoon this place amazed me how nice and active the staff was with me and my family member. I could tell my grandfather felt at home and was being treated with care. I spoke to a individual name Samuel N who worked with my grandfather I could tell this young man loved his job and was willing to do anything to make the staff happy. I really recommend this place great job.
We had such a pleasant experience there. Brookhaven really stepped up their game. The current staff are really caring and really want to help my nanna. The doctors originally said the healing time would take double but with this home we see that time cut in half. The parking and visiting is also a breeze. My family and I recommend this place.
You do have some staff who are very good and caring. The administrator is open to communicate will any and all. Unfortunately I had a issue with one staff member who said I was aggressive which is untrue and they denied me returning for rehab. I still would recommend this place to anyone
