Bub's Burgers and Ice Cream Bloomington

About

Second Home of the Big Ugly in Bloomington, Indiana!

Description

Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream® was established in May of 2003 in Carmel, Indiana. We had been thinking of a concept for a family restaurant with an emphasis on quality food and a fun atmosphere for several years. When we found the right location along the Monon Trail, we knew it was meant to be! With a lot of family guidance and moral support, Bub’s® was born!

“Bub” is a family nickname for Matt and his brother-in-law Chuck who was a guiding factor in the motivation for us to create our concept. The name ended up fitting perfect with the Big Ugly® Burger theme and what was a family nickname has now caught on with employees and regular customers. “Bub” can usually be found visiting tables most days of the week!

As the name states, burgers are our specialty. Our burgers are made from fresh, hand-pattied ground chuck and our buns are custom made to fit our burgers and baked fresh daily at a local bakery. We can’t emphasize quality, value and service enough. All of our burgers are after cooked weight giving the customer the most value possible. We offer a simple menu but we make sure all ingredients, products and service levels are the best we can create.

While we consider ourselves a burger place, other menu items that have attracted quite a following are the grilled Mahi Mahi, Elk Burgers, Chicken sandwich and our Bub Dogs. Our ice cream shop is also a popular stop on the Monon Trail and the source for the ice cream in our tasty hand-dipped shakes. Indianapolis artist Mike Brown painted the colorful farm-scene murals found throughout.

Because of our loyal following and customer support at our original store in Carmel, Indiana a second Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream was established in August of 2010 in Bloomington, Indiana. We were honored to receive Bloomington awards for Best New Restaurant 2010 (Indiana Daily Student Newspaper) and Best Burger 2011, 2012, and 2013 (Herald Times Newspaper)!! And as of January 2014, our most recent addition is located in Zionsville, Indiana – designed to give the residents of West Carmel, Zionsville, and all of Boone County a family destination.

Bub’s just isn’t a restaurant… it’s an experience. To our surprise, as of January 2014, we have sold over 80,000 Big Uglies, which equates to 110,000 lbs of ground chuck! And now, customers are eating three! Believe it or not, three have eaten four Big Uglies, equaling 4 lbs of meat (because our burgers are after-cook weight), and actually 2 lbs of bread (because each Big Ugly bun is a ½ lb)! Review our website for more of Bub’s on Man v Food and of the young men who ate four.

If you haven’t eaten at Bub’s, we invite you to come and give us a try! To all of our regular customers, we would like to say THANK YOU for helping make our concept a success!!

I had heard of the Big Ugly challenge but had never attempted it. On Sunday, I decided I couldn’t wait anymore. It is a big burger. Much bigger than the picture makes it seem. 22oz pre-cooked.A lot of food challenges that I have tried in the past didn’t seem to care much about the taste. This was a great burger. I enjoyed every bite. The bun was buttery and the meat tasted fresh. Finished it in 12 minutes and 22 seconds. Might have to try for two next time!
Bugs was an amazing burger and shake and waffle fries. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Quinten was the server and he did great!Food: 5/5
Bub's never disappoint. I haven't done their one pounder challenge. Only have had the normal burgers. And they were always top notch food. Their speciality burgers are tasty and the loaded fries are filling. Specially love the milk shakes. But all of that together is bit too much for one person. Still a great experience. Have to specially mention their signature chilli which is served to everyone when they get seated. Which is great. Quite friendly service and the outdoor seating is more calm than the indoors. Would recommend for any burger lover.
Great experience, as usual, even though it's been 6 years since we'd eaten there last. Staff was friendly, and service was fast, but honestly, not a lot of flavor. Had the Elk burger, and it was dry and bland even cooked to medium. The bun also was also bland. That said, I loved my sweet potato fries!Food: 2/5
Cute little burger place off the main thoroughfare. Decent food, clean and not overly crowded. Pace was pretty slow considering but still a good spot to grab a bite to eat. Shakes are very good.
Burgers were great! Sweet potato fries with fluff sauce was awesome! Service was friendly and fast. Only downfall to me was price of milkshakes. $9.95 for regular and $10.95 for specialty? The price talked all of us right out of ordering one.Food: 5/5
Not only the burgers are fantastic, but service is great. Our server, a young man named Bill, was very friendly, helpful and kind. The food was delicious, and it is much tastier than any other burger in town. Thumbs up Food: 5/5
Quaint restaurant in a college town with pretty good burgers. They do a challenge burger that if finished in the specific amount of time you get your picture put up in the restaurant, but the walls are absolutely plastered with pictures so I cant imagine they clean the walls very oftenFood: 4/5
Very busy stop in on a Sunday afternoon. Prices have increased drastically. The “Not so Ugly”® Half Pound Burger alone = $17.00 Sides such as fries are an extra charge. I enjoy their chili but won't be back due to the high cost.Food: 3/5
1st time here for me. Met up with friends who have been here before. Elk burger was good, however the sweet potato waffle fries were a bit cool edible but not hot. Overall good atmosphere. Waiter seemed busy as he shouldFood: 5/5
