For over 12 years this small business has never failed me. Incredibly knowledgeable staff, meticulous and detailed, will guide you through each step no pun intended of the stairs. Do NOT go driving all over the place piecing your order together. You will save money, time and frustration levels by making this your one stop shop for all of your stair needs, particularly builders and craftsmen. Owners will do better here as well.
March 2019 St Louis Builders Show: met MARC Eden, their booth rep who looked at my photos and agreed to give e-bid on new stair bannister in our 100 year old home. He bid very detailed and promptly, and said he planned to assign ERIC for this, in 2-3 weeks. Surprise, the office called in just a few days, and Eric arrived on time the next day. He first confirmed Marc’s prediction, about a 4-hr job. Then looked at the stair wall in question brick under drywall and predicted more time to secure the brackets. I understand why Eric got our job, because he has huge experience in older homes, said he even worked on the Henry Shaw house in the Botanical Garden. He was very competent and patient with the bannister anchors and fabrication. Then he found a sloping inside corner that required extra sanding of the end rail to fit. Taking 2-3 hours longer to do the job correctly impressed me on the same original bid price. Eric was always cheerful, professional, anxious to explain or answer questions; and he gladly coordinated his work stages to let me do a little staining. And his cleanup was perfect.
We had Builders Stair Supply Inc. re-do our staircase during our rework of the house, as we got rid of all carpeting and our existing was just a rough-in frame, that creaked and moved under my 350-pound, 6'5" frame. Our first visit was to their showroom whereby Marc guided us thru what was needed stair part-wise and he allowed us to create what we felt would look good for what we wanted to accomplish with the look of the stairs. He showed up the following week and began measuring the 2-flight 2nd Floor/Main Floor/Basement staircase. He had tons of questions, especially about our flooring that would be installed. They then worked up a quote for the installation, calling out items additional runners that may produce the need for additional cost if they were discovered after the disassembly of the existing staircase. After acceptance of the quote, we were slated to fit after the floor install, which had to occur prior to the kitchen cabinet install. Dan showed up and accepted delivery of the most beautiful raw wood I have seen. Jus' the treads had such meticulous fitted wood edges formed from pieces being fit together, whereby the grain built an edge pattern like I had never seen. Once Dan began his work, he kept me in the loop of what he found, why it was good, or bad, and what he planned to do to remedy anything negative. Once he began installing the beautiful wood that was delivered, I realized in the second day, that these stairs were going to be awesome. Dan actually had me watch what he did to install a Tread and Kickplate with the wedge construction method, whereby the wedge gets glue on both sides and driven to create such a tight join that there will be no creaking or sagging. Once there was a complete run complete and dry for a day, I walked down the stairs and what used to creak and move under my weight and frame, was like walking on concrete . . . no movement at all. After about 3.5 total weeks he waited to install Balusters and Scotia until the painters had painted and stained the entire staircase, which actually made things easier on the painters, and minimized painting cost, we had a beautiful staircase. Dan was a blessing to have on this job, as he is not just a mere installer, he is an artist who works with wood. In chatting with him, when he measures for a cut, he has to take into account the thickness of the saw blade, where the line is drawn for the cut with a fine lead pencil, and where the blade meets the line. He is miles above the normal "cut it close enough and caulk it" installers. I cannot recommend Builders Stair Supply Inc. enough . . . Quality . . . Artistry . . .
Extremely easy to work with. Friendly staff. Very good product!
