This was primarily a visit to Bull Run Regional Park to walk the Bluebell Trail. The trail is a great, easy 2 mile hike along the Bull Run and Cub Run Rivers. The April day was gorgeous and the bluebells were in full bloom. The hike itself is virtually level the entire length with a few wooden walkways over potentially wet areas. The bluebells were wonderful as well as the many other wildflowers in the area. Quite a few folks and dogs were about but it was not crowded. Parking is ample but with the good number of people it was limited on the day. There was a special Easter egg hunt set up, so a fair number of kids were around. A very nice walk, especially during bluebell season.
Nice and clean park. Really wish they closed the bathhouse at night because all the creepy crawlers go in when the doors are left wide open. Also there is a shooting range on the property basically so it sometimes sounds like a warzone! Great activities for kids and lots of things to do otherwise! Playground: Really fun! Lots of cool things for kids to do Restrooms: Update and nice but with doors left open ALL the bugs were inside. Wish Showers for the ladies were inside the bathhouse and not open to the outdoors also

We came here for a short hike and to see the bluebells during peak bloom early April. It was beautiful! There are quite a few spots that would be great for portraits along the trails. The trails are also well maintained, easy to navigate, and would be good for jogging. I was there early on a Saturday morning, and there were barely any other people around. It was very peaceful! The park also has a disc golf course, and picnic areas as well!
This is a nicely maintained campground. The trails and amenities are all great. The staff in the camp store were friendly and helpful. The Bluebell Trail was spectacular since we hiked it at peak on a sunny day. Our only complaint was the constant gunfire due to the firing range being immediately adjacent to the campground, particularly the northern sites. It starts early morning and doesn't stop until 6:30 pm. We joked that it felt like there was constant reenactment going on at the battlefield nearby. But joking aside, it ruined the nature sounds and beauty of the woods which is too bad. Restrooms: Clean and accessible throughout the park and campground.
Great place for family outings or group events! Free for certain local counties, otherwise, a $5 entrance fee. I actually worked 2 summers there during high school in the early 1970s! It's still a great place.
It was a chilly start, walking the Bluebell trail. I was there all morning. I think this was the best year for the Bluebells, since I have been coming. You could see the beautiful flowers throughout the whole loop of the trail.
We went for the Christmas/New Year drive-through lights show. It was beautiful, especially the Winter World and also the Festival of Lights Park at the end of the drive-through trail. The park also had food stalls, games and rides for kids and adults, camel rides, and 2 big bonfires. It was a great evening, extremely chilly but wonderful :D
This park offers a great water park Atlantis for kids in the summer, the Bull Run Festival of Lights in the winter and many more events throughout the year. There are also some good hiking and biking trails and much more. Definitely one of the best parks in the area. Attached photos are of the Festival of Lights
Bull festival of lights is one of my favorite Christmas attractions from my childhood. I come here every year as a holiday tradition with my kids now. The lines are much longer now since I was a kid. But they added a holiday village and carnival is much larger than before. The light shows is always very nice and I love the winter wonderland section where it looks like it's snowing with the lights moving. So if you have kids and are going on a busy peak day with kids make sure to bring a potty or put them in diapers before you wait in that line. But the positive is they have 2 lanes that are well lit and separate and they have 2 bathroom stops mid way thru the drive and you see signs for the bathrooms and there is port a potties bathrooms in the end at the carnival and holiday village. My kids are 6 and 9 yo and they really enjoy the carnival rides such as the speedway, the Mario fun house, and the teacups and flying plan ride. They love all the games - they have a balloon pop, a bebe gun target, a softball thing at a bottle and basketball hoops games. As for the food they have 3 food stands and a souvenir stand by the village. The only thing we wished there was another stand selling funnel cake and fried Oreos, fried twinkies, etc..because that line is so insanely long and with kids I can't imagine waiting 45mins to an hour to get funnel cake. Also the pizza stand should sell pretzels because the stand said pretzels but it doesn't have pretzels on the menu. But overall always a fun place to take your kids for fun holiday light show and activities.
