Bushnell Park Hartford, Connecticut
"It’s a sweet surprise to find a vintage 1914 carousel standing in Bushnell Park, housed in a 24-sided pavilion with 48 hand-carved wooden horses and two lovers’ chariots that swirl around a booming Wurlitzer band organ. The Knox Foundation brought the carousel to Hartford from Canton, Ohio, in 1974. Jack Dollard, director of the Foundation at the time, and an architect in the city, thought the horses would symbolize Hartford’s restoration. The New England Carousel Museum in Bristol restored the horses to reflect the same fury that Russian immigrants Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein first carved into their faces in 1914."

Took a 7 and 11 yr old on Wednesday 6.22.22 and it was free to ride as many times as you wanted typically $2pp. I paid to park on the street but was told free parking at the capital. The staff working at the carousel was friendly, energetic, and engaging. They talked to the kids, told them what to do and where to go. The ride itself was longer than I expected. Nice surprise. The ponies are absolutely beautiful. And we all had a wonderful time.
This wooden carousel is a lot faster than expected! Overall great experience though. Today the ride was free. They were selling popcorn and hot chocolate. The wait was not long. There was parking on the street in front of the carousel but very limited. We parked by what I believe is the court house near the skating rink. It was free and plenty of spots. We are visiting and glad we stopped.
We scheduled our daughter’s 4th birthday party there. We went with a private party, so only our guests were in the building along with the staff. They locked the door and made sure the bathrooms and the rest of the facility was spotless! For two hours, our family and friends enjoyed unlimited carousel rides. The room off to the side easily accommodated our party of 50. Everyone had a blast including the parents. All you could see were smiles from everyone! The staff were amazing and bent over backwards to make the experience outstanding! It was clear that they really enjoyed their jobs and making sure that everyone was happy. At the end of the night, everyone kept telling me how amazing the party was and how neat it was having it at the carousel. I have to say, it was worth every Penny and I have nothing negative to say about then entire evening. Special thanks to Loretta, Antonio, and the other staff who made the party become legendary!
This is a really fun activity to do while in the park. The history is very cool, and the ride is always fun! Even for adults!
Clean and open park, it was a nice leisurely walk. We admired the State Capitol building and the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial arch. We spend about 45 minutes here. There's also a fountain.
Well maintained park where you can spend nice time. Great views of Capitol area. Carasoul ride is fun activity for kids. Super cheap. Just a dollar for ride.Fountain was surrounded by roses.
Beautiful horses with real looking tails. It has the typical benches as well but there are also some horses that are stationary for kids who want to ride a horse but are afraid or nervous of the movement. They have old timey music playing. My daughter loved it for just $1 per ride! We got some popcorn on the way out and chilled in the park. Very nice outing and cheap.
Big open park right next to capitol building... The park itself is very beautiful. I really love the fountain center piece. This park is right near the state capital building which is really a pretty sight. I was there to attend a community event. Throughout the year, events happened in this park. Bushnell Park is a great place to go if you have the need a break from the city life and want to be surrounded by nature.
It's pretty carousel and neat from a historical perspective. My wife and my son loved it. However, be prepared for their credit card system not work and have cash on you... There is no other way to get a ticket at the location if their credit card system is not working.
Went during the week, my 18 month old loved it. It was free for children under 2. A big playscape was very close by for play after. No wait time for the rides.
