Laguna's quintessential neighborhood cafe is casual and hip without being trendy. Zagat calls the enormous swordfish plate "The Best on the Planet."
Laguna's neighborhood cafe, in famous Laguna Beach, California. Just up the street from Thalia Street on Glenneyre, this funky quasi-polynesian cafe is casual and hip without being trendy. Zagat calls the enormous swordfish plate "The Best on the Planet."(OK they say that about the swordfish, but the rest is comparable!).
Chef Michael Leech is a veteran of the mesquite broiler (40+ years). The food is described as 'Eclectic California Cuisine' with an emphasis on fresh seafood… Hawaiian, Asian, Mexican & Cajun are some of the influences that make up the menu. Most of the fish is char-broiled to perfection over the mesquite. Chef Michael buys only the very best from all over the world, cuts it himself every day, and then cooks it himself every night. Michael's world famous 3″ thick pound of fresh swordfish is Cafe Zoolu's most popular dish. Only fresh, wild caught seafood is prepared by Chef Michael.
Seasonal items include local Laguna Spiney Lobster (October thru March), fresh Maryland Soft Shell Blue Crab (summer months), and Alaskan Copper River Salmon (May thru June)… Cafe Zoolu's menu also features beef, pork, lamb, chicken, pastas, vegetarian dishes and their most popular appetizer, Calamari Asian style.
Owner operated by Toni Leech & husband-chef Michael. Open for dinner Tuesday – Sunday, starting at 5pm.
