We love the weekend of family camp. Cabins are somewhat rustic but comfortable. The workers are very friendly. The horseback riding is fabulous, and we always go at least twice on the weekend. The only negative is that some activities are advertised but not held.
My daughter has attended overnight camp at Nissokone for 4 years and each year she wants to stay longer. It's like her summer "home". It is the perfect version of summer camp - cabins full of friends both old & new, counselors who become friends, all of the activities you could expect, and so much more. Plus no electronics, so they are truly immersed in the experience. I love that she gets to experience real "camp" the way I did when I was her age.
I have been going to summer camp Nissokone for many, many summers. My time at Nissokone has been the best time of my life. I am going back this summer and I could not be more excited! The staff is helpful, supportive and responsible, the activities are outstandingly fun. They have everything at camp Nissokone, archery, sailing, high ropes, horse back riding, rock climbing, the list never ends! Camp is a great and welcoming environment.
I have been attending Camp Nissokone for as long as I have been able to. I have treasured every moment I have been there, and worked my way up from a young camper to a working counselor. I can honestly say that Nissokone is responsible for some of the happiest moments and best summers of my life. I would not be as successful, confident, or outgoing as I am now without the wonderful camp spirit I breathed in through camp. If you are considering sending someone away to a summer camp, look no further than here.
I am an Oscoda resident and have spent my whole life exploring the great outdoor experiences Oscoda offers. It wasn't until the summer of 2012 that I had the opportunity to explore the shores of Nissokone, I have been working there ever since. The experience has truly made me a better person. I wish I would have been fortunate enough to attend Nissokone, and develop all the skills it offers, as a kid. Camp was the first place I: went horseback riding, went down a zip line, went kayaking and so much more. Camp Nissokone is the brightest part of Oscoda. I have built everlasting memories there and feel anyone who goes can do the same. It's such a great cause.
My daughter has attended camp at Camp Nissokone for several years. It has been truly one of the most joyful experiences of her life. The friendships she's made, lessons she's learned and memories she'll have we know she'll always cherish. Throughout the years the staff has been top-notch and the rustic camp itself is set on one of the prettiest lakes you will ever see located just outside the charming beach town of Oscoda. We have only great things to say about Camp Nissokone.
Our family four boys LOVED Camp Nissokone!! As an elementary teacher and parent of four I have been to all sorts of camps over the years and this one is by far THE BEST!!! The staff is fun and caring and the site next to the lake is serene and beautiful! There were more activities then we had time to enjoy!!! Water skiing, tubing, sailing, horseback riding, yoga, archery, zip lines, hiking, tie dying, paint ball, water sliding the list goes on and on!! What a fantastic memory making time!! ALL four boys asked if we could PLEASE go back again this summer!! So we are registered again for family camp and can't wait! Treat yourself and children and experience the magic of Camp Nissokone!!!
Our daughter has been a participant in the YMCA camps for the last three years. Last summer she had the opportunity to visit Nissokone for the first time, but definately not the last time. From the moment she arrived, we all were warmly greeted by Ryan director and self camp staff. She excited ran to see some of her counsellors who had been with her in previous camps and waved good bye to us. We new she was in excellent hands, and already before she left had this summer a request to be a participant in Leadership Camp. Nissokone guided her team leadership, fostered her curiosity, and allowed her to cultivate friendships that will last for years. Definately, recommended as an amazing opportunity for your child!
Both of my sons have gone to camp nissokone for many, many years and they love it! They spend all year looking forward to it. My youngest son is doing 3 weeks again this year and is even thinking about becoming a counselor. Great place, great people!
I was camper for a total of 52 weeks in the 1970s. I feel that things I learned there that have made me the successful person I am today. I volunteer there some every year. I wish I could quite my job and go work there all summer. I have been through other camps but I only feel like I am HOME when I go to Nissokone. I fell in Love with Nissokone in my teens. And I Love this place today as much I did 40 years ago.
