Cane River Creole National Historical Park

A wonderful preserved piece of history. Worth a stop, id plan 2 hours if you want to visit all the buildings and history. There is a small gift shop and can get a passport stamp here Restrooms: Nice restrooms Picnic area: They have some well shaded picnic tables as well as a covered pavillion, great for a picnic lunch

This is a nice place to visit. It has several different buildings. I loved reading the History. Some of it was already known to me since i grew up in Louisiana. The pigeon house was completely new info for me. I'm going back soon to explore the whole area! Picnic area: The picnic tables are under a Pavillion with reatrooms.

The Cane River Creole National Historical Park is a NPS site with a lot of history. It was a self guided tour and unfortunately the house wasn’t opened while I was there but was still quite fascinating.

Awesome historical site. Just wish it was open during the week. Main house is only open on weekends.

Beautiful property and lots of buildings to see. They have documented the history of this plantation very well. We went on a Friday not knowing you couldn’t go inside the main house however the ranger working inside heard us on the porch and opened the door to let us in to tour the house. The main house is open on Saturday to tour but for us we were fortunate to go in and look around. Staff is amazing and facilities are very well kept.

Almost a hidden gem. This is a great park just off the interestate a few miles. It’s a great place to see a plantation of this type. The buildings were restored beautifully. The staff here love their jobs here and it shows. Great explanations about the history of the park and the surrounding area. NOTE…. It is a plantation. Be prepared to spend some time walking around to look at the various buildings. Also, try to join in in the plantaion house walk through. It’s fascinating. There are restrooms near the parking lot.

This is a great plantation to visit. The property is beautiful. The information and history are very interesting. I have been here a few times. I recommend visiting. The restrooms are clean also. It can get hot here, so plan wisely.

Fantastic park rich in history and beautifully restored. Highly recommend the Oakland Plantation tour given daily at 9am. Beats the heat and helps you learn the rich history here.

We visited Oakland Plantation the park is made up of two plantations - Oakland and Magnolia. The plantation home and outbuildings are wonderfully preserved, and the area is beautiful. This site unveils important pieces of American history, with lots of information concerning the lives of enslaved Americans who worked at the plantation, as well as the lives of former enslaved Americans who, after "emancipation," found that they and their children were bound just as tightly as ever to the plantation as indebted sharecroppers.
