This place is awesome! Do u love the old Hollywood style? Do u dream of an original Art Deco experience in the heart of the action? Do u crave those unique designs, features and aesthetics that are unique only to establishments that haven’t been gutted and modernized? Then Canterbury Suites is the place for you! It has all the original architectural features, i.e. charm and history, and the obvious functionality, that comes with this era of design that is iconic. “Rooms” are actually apartments, complete with a full size appliance kitchen, stove/oven, refrigerator, kitchen table, microwave, etc... the size you would expect to find In any downtown area. The grounds are well kept and ambient. The service is great and the manager Timothy has created such a chic retro vibe with the decor and furnishings, as well as friendly and helpful staff. Coffee and pastries are served in the AM too! The parking can be a bit tricky but a city run garage is immediately next door, it’s best to just dock the car there and since SO much to do is within walking distance or a short inexpensive ride service away, you might as well walk. Since it’s a prime spot for Hollywood Blvd action and so much more..I’m so happy I stayed here and if u like original Art Deco, you will too!!
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Timothy, the concierge, was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the building's history. The room was very clean and spacious. It offered a full kitchen with all the necessary pots, pans and utensils to cook meals, should you desire to do so. I am 6'2" so I was very pleased with the king sized bed. The the bathroom was clean and offered a rain shower head, which not only uses less water than a conventional, it feels great. Despite the building being renovated it was still very welcoming. It is a great value for the asking rate. I will be coming back to stay here again.
I had a fantastic stay at the Canterbury Suites. Timothy, at the front desk, was such a great host. He told me all about the colorful history of the hotel and the neighborhood around it. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Timothy; he was gracious, friendly, and really just made you feel like a friend. It’s been a while since I have been to Hollywood so I was worried about not knowing exactly where the hotel was located in accordance to all the tourist stuff; and I could not have been happier. It was literally smack dab in the middle of everything. I was able to walk almost everywhere; and if it was a little longer than I felt like walking the metro rail was a few blocks away for easy travel. The room I stayed in was huge. It was clean and decorated with cute little details that made it feel like old Hollywood. I will 100% be coming back and staying here again. I also can’t wait to check out their Venice beach location!!!
Overall I can say that I liked this place. I get the impression that it used to be an apartment building and has been renovated into a hotel, but in an interesting way. The rooms are quite spacious, with floor plans that are unconventional. The beds are nice, large, comfy with more fluffy pillows than you would ever need. The furniture is also nice and new. Bathroom is stocked with shower and bath products that you want to take home with you. Plenty of hand towels, wash clothes and bath towels are already provided when you check in. Every room has a kitchen, mine had a full kitchen, not a kitchenette, a full freaking kitchen which I did not use. The stairway and halls leading to the rooms is dark and possibly still the original wood. Soundproofing hasn't been a part of the renovation, but it is forgivable. The rooms are seriously nice. When you walk from the dark hallway into the room you've rented it is like you have passed through to another dimension. There is an obvious investment of thought and design that has been put into the look and feel of the rooms. There is a gate code which you can use to gain access to the common areas so if you have guests you can give them the code and your room number and they can find their way to your room. This place is unique and pretty awesome. I will visit again.
This place is amazing. It’s has amazing charm and character. Timothy planned our entire stay and we had such an amazing time. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about Hollywood. Def ask for him at checkin. They are remodeling the place and it has a ton of cool history! This is one of the coolest hotels I have stayed in and I can’t wait to come back when it’s finished!
Timothy was the absolute best host! My friends and I came from Florida with no idea what to do and he made our trip amazing. Plus, the hotel is very clean and well kept. Amazing experience overall!!! : Would definitely come back here.Rooms: 5/5
Great stay right off of Hollywood Blvd! Great customer service by Timothy. He checked us in, told us the surrounding attractions and how to get around using local transportation. He even walked us up to our room and gave us a mini tour. The price is great and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. It's basically renting a one bedroom apartment including kitchen for the price of an inexpensive hotel room.
The history of this place is amazing! If you are a history buff and love old places with new life, then look no further! This is your home away from home, Timothy was a great host and completely took care of my fiancé and I. If you want to stay in an old school location with modern hospitality and a 5 star rating staff willing to go above and beyond to ensure that you have an amazing stay! Do not hesitate and book now!
My husband surprised me for my birthday with a trip to California, we had a great time. The Canterbury suites was a little piece of home. I’m from New Orleans, the hotel is historic and reminds me of the French quarter courtyards.....The rooms were all hardwood flooring, clean, great staff the hotel manager and the guy that was running the front desk were awesome, it’s right off the Hollywood Strip, close to Starbucks, and in the middle of Los Angeles. It was great to stay here, my husband and I will definitely be back with our little girls next year. Timothy the owner even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate. That’s above and beyond if you ask me...... Great service from a great hotel... thanks for everything Canterbury Suites your one of a kind........
Initially when we first walked in I already had done my research. Walking in I was amazed at the aesthetic and made me feel like I was back in time. Timothy was the one who greeted us first and made us feel super welcome. He knew his facts about this building and I love the rooms, they’re beyond beautiful. The front desk person Chris was also very helpful and kind.
