Best Italian food I've eaten in CT. Wish they had meatballs! Stone Porkchop & the Chicken Parm are wonderful. Big portions. Expect leftovers!Food: 5/5
Portion for each entree is more than the average person can finish and, yet, they charge you $8 plate-share fee! Food was not bad but not great either. Plenty of other places to try in the area before returning.Food: 3/5
Cantina is a place great for anyone looking for a less-known but delicious Italian restaurant. You need to use stairs to get to the eating area, there's no elevator or ramp in the building. The atmosphere is alright, but you're not going for decor; you're going for the food. The menu is limited but the portions are huge; you're bringing home leftovers. I've never had a bad meal here, whoever runs the kitchen knows their stuff. Parking: There's a town parking lot within walking distance and various metered parking spots on the street $1/hr as of 2023. There's free patrons-only parking right next to the building, but open spots are not always guaranteed and you'll get towed if you leave your car to explore Main St for too long. Wheelchair accessibility: Unfortunately, to get to the seating area you must use the stairs. Dietary restrictions: I would not recommend Cantina if you have any dietary restrictions relating to Italian food. There's pasta dishes for any vegetarians, but that's about it. If a group brings you here and you can't eat dairy, gluten, or garlic, you'll be stuck with the salad.
What the hell happened to this place? The food was always excellent in the past. All 5 of us were not happy with our main entrees. Each dinner was drowned in a soup like salt substance and the quality of what was not was just mediocre. The 2 fish dishes were nearly inedible and $38.99 each. How embarrassing to have suggested this place to my family. No working a/c either. Will not be back.
Love this place! Awesome lemon drop martini, service is excellent and my favorite chicken Parmigiano. Large enough to feed a family plenty for leftovers tomorrow. We will be back when I need my chicken parm and drink fix! Another wonderful dinner! Just go! Staff is kind, helpful and it is a fun old school basement! They will not win points on decor bur still a happy place@
Attending a popular annual event here in April 2022, cocktails and mingling traditionally began the first hour. Family style antipasto platters, salad, rolls and penne in red sauce were brought to tables by servers for the first course. A buffet dinner with multiple chafing dishes on two long banquet tables were on each side of the room. Prepared meals consisted of sausage, green pepper and roasted potatoes, a white fish topped with crabmeat stuffing and veal roulade with asparagus and cheese in brown gravy. Cannolis were brought to tables for the dessert course. Self-serve coffee was available to patrons on a rear table.
WOW! The food at Cantina is absolutely amazing. This is the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. My husband had the veal parmigiana and I had the gnocchi salimbocca. The portions are huge and everything tasted so fresh. We can’t wait to go back!
This little hole in the wall Italian restaurant makes you feel like you're in an old Italian couples home, so quaint and comfortable. This is also maintained by the service. It feels more like an interaction with an old friend. The portion sizes are giant, so be prepared to share or take home leftovers, but the food is to die for. Just from the look of the food you can tell that the pasta is handmade, and that first bite just proves it. Even before the main course the simple salad and bread that they have just set you up for high expectations of the main course, and they deliver above and beyond. This is absolutely some of the best Italian food I've ever eaten and I will be going back. Also, if you can muster up the room, they're homemade cannoli is just a new level, and it will make all other cannoli seem subpar. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. Vegetarian options: They do not specialize in vegetarian options, but I had a dish with pasta and mushrooms in a spinach cream sauce and if that was all I ate for the rest of my life I would be happy.
After hearing about this place for years, I finally made it there. Amazing food, authentic atmosphere and fantastic service. If getting a pasta dish, consider getting one family style.
The food was very salty. Broth that our dishes were in was not very good. Everything went downhill since we were there last year. Wouldn't reccomend. Fish dishes were way overpriced.Food: 2/5
