I try to visit as many indoor shopping malls as possible. I was traveling through the area with my family and noticed that this was just a few blocks down from the hotel we were staying at. Decided to take a look. They have some staple big box stores like Macy's, Target, and Kohl's. They also have a Chili's restaurant. They have some smaller chain stores indoors like Lids, Bath and Body Works, Claire's, Vans, Journeys, Famous Footwear, etc. However, Most of the stores are smaller mom and pop type places. You can tell that the mall has been around since approximately the 80s. There is some nostalgia. There are fewer and fewer indoor older malls. I like to give them business when I can as they are all struggling.
I almost feel bad writing this review. The Capitola Mall… it’s a mall, I think that’s almost enough information by itself. Don’t get me wrong, the mall is really nice for a smaller type shopping mall. Just like most malls these days it’s just inside that’s sad. This last time I was there on a Saturday afternoon, and I was able to park in the first row right by the front. I was there for maybe 30 minutes, 45 tops… The whole time I maybe saw a grand total of 20 people. The only reason I stop here is for the Santa Cruz apparel store. They have a sister store farther down on 41st Ave., but this one is easier to get to off the freeway. There is a food court, but there are very few selections still open. Who knows maybe someday people will come back but I think the time of the shopping mall has come and gone.
As of August '23, there are many new spots in the mall that very much emphasized in person experiences. I'm very excited to see what happens next! I am really excited about the puppet institute and Hadbro Toys.Rain is awesome! You can pick up a model and then head down to the Papa institute to paint it! And then grab a snack in the food court just like it's the 80s!
Bizarre and a bit of a surreal place. Good selection of stores. And a large mall. But mostly empty. Kind of like walking through a relic of some kind. But with a fully functioning mostly empty Target, Macy's etc.
The mall looks nice though it was pretty dead at noon on a week day.
Been there twice. So bizarre how they force the restroom doors to stay open. I tried to close the womens while using it, and staff immediately jammed it open again. Good luck using the restoom in any sort of privacy.
I've seen this mall have better years. There is alot of talk that this mall is changing in the next year or so. I hope so I really don't like going out of town just to buy a decent pair of shoes.
Capitola Mall is a multi store large complex, with inside stores, and some stores having their own outside entry. To include the larger hub stores. Plenty of parking on all sides around the complex.
I shop at the Capitola Mall for all my Christmas and holiday needs come down for all kinds of fun stores. There’s local stores like BECKS there’s spencers there’s vanns there is a target. There’s a Macy’s there’s a Kohl’s and an Ulta !
Only passed through here one time but it was really cool to go into a mall that still looks original ! From the gold posts to the fake potted plants it just gives you that old school vibe! I wish we still had malls like this in LA but unfortunately malls aren't thriving like they used to. This one had a decent amount of stores when I went but haven't been here in 2 years so I'm not sure if it still does. Super cool stuck in time mall though!
