Tomorrow, Wednesday 8/29/18, will probably be the last day they will be open. Carson's Harlem-Irving was a great store with great people.
All the Carson's stores are closing down due to inability to keep customers who prefer to due their shopping online these days. We were able to take advantage of the final close-out sales, but felt very sad to think of all the Carson's employees who were losing their jobs. The great space in the mall occupied by the store was soon going to be completely empty. The sales people were very courteous and helpful, but certainly they were not overjoyed at having to face their unknown futures.
Everything is kind of a mess as they are getting ready to close but the sale prices are worth while: 70-90% off. Things are disappearing quickly so definitely don't expect to be able to come back the next day and find something in the same spot or available at all for that matter. Some things are still available online with delivery. And all the fixtures are for sale as well for reasonable prices.
This was my first visit to this location. They are going out of business so it doesn't really matter what I think of the place. As of late June 2018, everything is 50% off. There is still a pretty good selection of merchandise, but the list prices are high enough that the deals aren't great. I couldn't think of anything I really needed anyway.
Please shop at Kohl's. I bought a sweater for 65 dollars and then realized it was a rip off. Went back to store half hour later, just before closing, and a lady at the register treated me with stupid questions like why are you returning this... And then I never got my money charged back to my card. Maybe she didn't do it on purpose but she really screwed me over. I feel bad for the staff seems like this place really gets to them...
Went to check out with my birthday and some old guy near the womens active/sunglasses on the first floor was super rude and snotty. I asked him to show me where it says the coupons can't be combined and he threw up his hands and told me to just go to someone else because he won't do it for me. Rebecca L. In the shoes department was kind enough to show me exactly where it said the coupons weren't able to be combined and turned my experience around. She was very helpful and very thoughtful, and even complemented what i purchased. I wish more sales associates were like her - kudos to her!
Spent about 30 mins looking at $80-$100 men's sweaters trying to find my size. Tried some on dressing room & in the isle, folded everything up neatly and returned to proper location. I counted 8 employees. Not one so much as said hello. Asked one a question and got a condescending "No" then they walked away. Pass. Walked out. Heading to Nordstrom where I normally shop and get always get some help navigating around the store and finding what I want/need.
Went for the closing sale. One of the rooftop entrances is not stroller friendly. Sales seem decent. Went for shoes and found many pairs in the right sizes.
Carson's Furniture on Lake Street in Wilmette is such a scam. They say all stuff has to go and furniture has savings 60 to 80% off. Well they marked the prices up so high and the discount is NO DISCOUNT. A leather sofa in store was marked at $12,000. Then. Discount so it was $5,000. The same type of leather couch I on sale at Macy's and is $1,700. That's a sale a real sale! What a joke. The clothes at Carsons is a deal for sure.
OMG what does it take to have someone check for an item that the Woodfield store said was in stock in Norridge. I bought a blazer for full price yesterday less the goodwill coupon. Today while steaming the many wrinkles out of the blazer I noticed the seam was open. If the store could mead it that would be fine but they can't. I just want to have the same blazer for the same price. I've called the store many times the first person in Women's dept was very nice but it was not in her area, after trying to connect me she gave me the ext. to call. I called and called and called - ok the story is too long and boring but after several tries and getting disconnected twice the operator explained that some of the ext were not working. I finally got to the JR dept and they have the blazer - yeah but they want to charge me shipping - really!!! I don't live close this this store and they won't send it to the store near me. I just want what I have without a rip and without paying more money. Is this such a big request?? Should it really have taken several hours to find I now need to wait for someone that can waive the shipping fee. I'm very disappointed :
