It was a really beautiful state park campground. The cave tours are fun and easily accessible, or a bit more adventurous if you're up to the challenge! There are also caves you can go through on your own with a permit which was free. Just bring closed toed shoes and a flashlight, and prepare to get your feet wet. The actual campground was well maintained and had activities the nights we stayed like glow golf and an ice cream social. The hiking trails were scenic and well marked. A great stop for a family getaway.
Well kept campground with lots to do! Playgrounds, mini golf, lake, pool, hiking and lots of caves. The park is beautiful, with so many trails, lots of wildlife and caves. The sites are really close. We had full hook ups and appreciated that convenience. Not private but we were there visit family anyway. Everyone seemed friendly and helpful. My only suggestion would be to plant trees/flowers/bushes — it would be nice to add more variety of plants within the campground.
Very nice and quiet spot to get away. Tons of trails to walk and talk, tons of cave attractions as well. Has the "summer camp" you got as a kid, which we really liked. Kinda rustic but not cheaply done. We will be back!
We stayed at the campground, it was clean and friendly, my only complaint was the electric was not a standard plug, thankfully they sold adapters for $6... The food and service at the resort restaurant was excellent very tasty and reasonable priced. The hiking trails, for the most part were very well marked. However I don't think the mileage is quite accurate. But they were some great trails with lots to see. The caves were also good. Not as big as some I've been in but the guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend Cascade cave.
We spent a great few days camping here! The sites are all clean and there’s always staff around keeping areas clean and maintained. Kids 6 and 11 were able to safely play around the campsite, walk to the playground and play gaga ball. We hiked both days and the trails were in good condition, well marked. The second day we got a free permit to enter Horn Hollow cave and it was so much fun to explore. We appreciated being able to shower off each day. Mini golf and swimming were all reasonably priced as well as ice. We will definitely be back!
We stopped here for one night on the way through a road trip. We saw so many wildlife while there! It really was a beautiful area. The lodge is older with a lot of history and a neat place. The rooms are like a hotel room - clean mostly, comfy mostly. It's a basic room. Very nice that it had a storm door and a balcony out back. Enjoyed that. Noteworthy details: Very nice swings out front to relax and enjoy the sounds.
My daughter and I spent a few days hiking the trails and exploring the caves. Loved the trails and the two cave tours we participated in. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and informative. He truly enjoys caves and the world under our feet and his passion was contagious. I would absolutely come here again. If you're in the area, highly recommend Fratelli - YUM!!!! Nearby activities: Loved the two cave tours we took and the trails were lovely!
The Carter Caves are well worth the trip. I went on the X Cave tour which was an interesting exploration of a cave with stalagmites and stalactites, calcium flows and beautiful formations. It is interesting without being a terribly difficult walk through. There were children and older people on the tour. There are a few spots where you have to crouch down to walk, a downhill slope that was sweet and a bit slippery and a tiny staircase that you had to crouch down going up but those were the most difficult spots. The guide was excellent, well informed and funny. I'm the center of the cave, after warming you, he turns off all of the lights so you can experience complete darkness. This was my favorite party and something I will always remember because it was so intense. I also did the easy walk to the natural bridge which is only a half mile from the gift store. That is beautiful and majestic. You can even drive closer to make the walk shorter. The gift store is lovely and has a huge selection of fun things to buy. I bought a walking stick with a rubber tip, which I was glad to have in the cave. There are a lot of picnic tables there, clean bathrooms, interesting activities and hikes for every level of adventure you want to have. I wish I could have done the Cave Karaoke. Our guide told us about the bat cave tour where you crawl through the cave, sometime up to your neck in water in sections called something like the lake of screams. Definitely an experience for the more adventurous explorer.
Great park. Wonderful hikes anywhere between 1/4 to 8 miles. Lake for canoes/kayaks, public pool, mini golf, guided cave hikes. It's got everything. Campground had tomahawk throw one night and hand-cranked ice cream and tie dye making another. Great lodge with restaurant. Campground was friendly. Clean bathrooms, great staff. I traveled with my wife and 2 kids 11 and 9 in a popup and we couldn't be happier.
There is lots to do at Carter Caves State Resort...cave tours, natural bridges, hiking and relaxing at the pool. We stayed at the lodge and our room had every amenity you would expect. Staff throughout were friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant was reasonably priced and everything we ordered was delicious. We will definitely be back.
