We played 9 holes Monday. The course was in very good shape. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition. I will have to say the sand traps were a little rough, but luckily we didn't hit any shots in them. The staff were very friendly!
Played here today. Live in WV but wanted to play somewhere different than my usuals tracks so made the hour or so drive here. I was not disappointed. I found the layout to be challenging but fair. The course was in good condition and very reasonably priced. I will be returning!
Great course. Unprofessional staff. Had a tee time for 10:50 for six. 3 teams of 2. Scramble. We tee’d off 10 minutes early because it was open. Mid back swing on our second shot someone drove up and rudely demanded we needed to split up into two teams of three so we didn’t hold up the old guys behind us about to tee off. Our tee time was at 10:50, we finished the hole by 10:50. Should not have to deal with a group of 4 playing one shot behind us all day because they can’t stick to the tee times they assigned. Unprofessional.
I will admit I am a little bias because i am local, but this Course is a hidden jewel. I have only been playing for a year but i have played several different courses and always find my way back to hidden cove. The staff are extremely friendly and make you feel comfortable in the clubhouse. I have never felt i was being rushed out to the course. The upkeep on the course is good as can be expected giving the unusual weather and it’s a challenge for all levels. I truly enjoy the wildlife and seclusion on the holes. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this Golf Course to any level player and Once again our Kentucky State Parks makes this Kentuckian proud.
Another great State Park course, Greens and fairways are Alta’s nice. Bunker’s well it’s a work in progress
There are two Kentucky State Park Golf Courses on the east side of the state that would make for a terrific weekend golf getaway for guys, gals, or couples. Eagle Ridge at Yatesville Lake State Park and Hidden Cove Golf Course at Grayson Lake State Park will provide two exciting rounds of golf for just about anyone who plays them. My advice is to play your first round at Hidden Cove. It’s located in Olive Hill, KY, and has won numerous awards over the year including a rating of #4 Best New Affordable Public Courses by Golf Digest in 2004 and a 6th place in KY ranking by the same magazine in 2006. The course offers some good elevation changes and generous Bermuda grass fairways. The Bentgrass greens are incredible and are surrounded by challenging bunkers. Number 8 is the course’s #1 handicap hole. It’s a 394-yard par 4 that plays nearly completely uphill. A good drive will still leave a long approach shot into a small, well-undulated green with very little trouble around it. A par on this hole is something to be celebrated! The Lodge at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in Greenup, KY is a great place to bed down for a couple of nights. The Jesse Stuart Lodge has comfortable rooms at a reasonable rate and the Angler’s Cove restaurant has good food as well. Both of these courses are currently undergoing bunker renovations and are in the process of switching over to “Better Billy Bunker,” the best-draining bunker system in the golf industry. It may take a while for the installation to be complete but it’s well worth the wait. For golfers that plan on playing multiple rounds of golf over the year at the Kentucky State Parks, you may want to consider purchasing a Trail Card which gives you access to many courses across the state within the Nation’s Finest Park System. A lot of these courses have been recognized nationally by Golf Digest. The Trail Card can be purchased at any of the Kentucky State Park courses.
November 2021 and they still want masks worn inside, bathrooms are both closed, don't sell alcohol.... That was the start of the experience and didn't get much better from there on the golf course, first I'll give this place 3 stars instead of 1 based on the golf course layout, green undulation, amount and build of the bunkers and overall the course is cut out of the forest so pretty cool, at one point this place might've been a gem but this was my first time playing and I'll never be back, bunkers aren't maintained so none of them are playable, greens were long and slow, fairway overgrown along with the rough... Sucks because again at one time I bet this place was pretty sweet, not now!!
Staff very friendly: brought a cart to the car before I even checked in at the clubhouse. That's a first! Undulating greens, some with shelves. Greens and fairways in good to very good condition. Most traps in disrepair, while several crucial ones have recently been rebuilt. Played the bad ones as ground under repair.
Hard to rate a course on conditions in November, but overall they were above average. Greens rolled nicely even made a few 6-8 footers. The course plays longer than the card as there are several holes with heavy uphill shots see 5, 8 10. Good set of par 3's that you can make birdies on. Only hole i did not like was 18 as you have to lay up off the tee and hit a long iron or rescue on 2nd shot. Good 18th holes give chance at birdie with some risk taking. Not in my backyard but will be back next year.
Best kept track I have played in long term memory.... fairways were absolutely immaculate, and greens were very smooth. Course maintenance crew is to be commended. The staff namely Bre Boggs was super nice and accommodating. So glad I chose this venue and will definitely be back!!!
