Listen up North Lake Tahoe lovers. January 28th-February 2nd, your après ski is about to get even better. That’s because elite snow carvers from around the world will be traveling to Northstar California Resort to participate in Carve Tahoe.
Carve is a week-long international snow sculpture celebration where spectators get to watch in awe as teams transform 20-ton blocks of pure, white snow into breathtaking masterpieces. And this is no amateur hour. The teams competing are the best of the best – selected from applications sent in from all over the world. The Lead judge, Lawrence Noble, is an award-winning sculptor and illustrator who previously designed a Gold Medal for the 1984 Olympics – the guy knows his stuff. The event is being held from Feb. 8-12, 2013, followed by rounds of spectator judging and a ceremony on Feb. 13. After that, spectators will have only a handful of days to enjoy these sculptures before they melt away.

While the highlight of Carve is the talent and skill of the carvers from Finland/Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the U.S., of course no event would be complete without a little charity thrown in. A portion of the People's Choice donations will go to the Humane Society of Tahoe Truckee. Warming up with some hot chocolate or a refreshing Sapporo beer after a long day on the mountain, watching the sculptors create massive works of art, and giving back to charity? Sounds like a good time to us.
